Description
Hanzō Hattori is a primary antagonist in Brave10, serving as a formidable Iga ninja and a major obstacle for the protagonist, Saizo Kirigakure. Initially presented as a spy in service to the powerful warlord Tokugawa Ieyasu, Hanzō holds no true loyalty to his master and secretly plots to seize control of the land from the shadows. His main objective is to obtain the Kushi-mitama, a powerful artifact that resides within the young priestess Isanami, intending to harness its great power for his personal ambition of conquering the nation.

In terms of personality, Hanzō is characterized by his cruelty, heartlessness, and sadistic nature. He takes pleasure in psychological torment, cruelly taunting Isanami about her perceived weakness and blaming her for the deaths and suffering of her friends. He is highly confident, arrogant, and boasts extensively about his own superior skills, particularly when confronting his rival, Saizo. This confidence is not entirely unfounded, as his abilities are portrayed as potentially surpassing those of the main hero. His arrogance ultimately proves to be his fatal flaw, as he believes he can control the immense power of Isanami's goddess form.

Hanzō's role in the story is that of a mastermind and a direct enemy to Sanada Yukimura's ten Braves. He is the one who initially burned down the Izumo shrine, setting the plot in motion by displacing Isanami. To further his schemes, he orchestrates a plan to capture Isanami and eliminate her protectors. This includes infiltrating Yukimura's group by dispatching his own operative, Ana, to act as a spy. He leads his own faction known as the League of Iga, a group of extremely tough ninja who attack the Braves, seeking to overwhelm them through numbers and diverse, dangerous abilities.

A key relationship in Hanzō's narrative is his intense rivalry with Saizo Kirigakure. He is deeply jealous of Saizo's renown and constantly seeks to prove his own superiority, viewing their confrontations as a chance to finally surpass his celebrated peer. His connection to Isanami is purely predatory, viewing her only as a vessel to be used and discarded for the Kushi-mitama's power. He also manipulates Ana, though his hold over her is broken as the story progresses.

Throughout the series, Hanzō shows little to no development or redemption; he remains consistently cruel and power-hungry. The only notable change in his status is his ultimate demise. In the final conflict, his overconfidence leads him to a fitting end. When he attempts to force Isanami to unleash her full power, he loses control of the situation. The awakened goddess consumes him, demonstrating the folly of his arrogance and bringing his plan for domination to a violent close.

Hanzō's notable abilities center on his incredible speed, which he uses as his primary method of attack. His talent as a ninja is so great, it is suggested he might even be more skilled than the legendary Saizo. This exceptional speed makes him an incredibly difficult opponent to strike, allowing him to easily evade attacks and land devastating blows on his foes. His physical appearance complements his deadly nature, often depicted with long brown hair, red eyes, and wearing a half-mask that adds to his mysterious and menacing presence.
