Description
Killy is the protagonist of the manga Blame!, a silent and stoic wanderer on an ancient, lonely mission within an impossibly vast and chaotic artificial world. His primary objective is to locate a human being who still possesses the Net Terminal Gene, a specific genetic marker that allows for legal and safe access to the Netsphere, the city's long-lost control network. Only by finding such a person can the automated systems be regulated and the unchecked expansion of the city be halted.

Killy's background is shrouded in mystery, and he has no memory of his own past or how he came to possess his unique weapon. It is known that he is not a normal human but an advanced cyborg, described by the city's Governing Agency as a secret agent from a pre-Safeguard system. He has been alive for an extraordinarily long time, with the author stating he is over three thousand years old, and his memory loss is implied to be a side effect of his immense age.

In personality, Killy is exceptionally reserved, glum, and taciturn, speaking only a few words when necessary. He rarely shows emotion, his expression remaining largely stoic and disinterested, with the few exceptions being moments of grim satisfaction when destroying his enemies. He has a deep-seated and immediate mistrust of Silicon Creatures, a rival form of artificial life, and destroys them on sight without hesitation, seemingly deriving a cold pleasure from their extermination. Despite his cold demeanor towards enemies, he has demonstrated rare moments of compassion and kindness toward other humans he encounters on his journey. His overarching motivation is a singular, unwavering commitment to his mission, driving him forward for millennia without distraction or rest.

His primary role in the story is that of a lone agent navigating the endless, decaying levels of the Megastructure. He acts as a protector for potential gene carriers and a relentless pursuer of any lead that might bring him closer to his goal. For much of his journey, he is joined by Cibo, a scientist who becomes a key ally and companion. Cibo provides technical expertise and assists in hacking into systems, while Killy provides the firepower and physical protection she requires to survive. His key relationships are often functional, but his bond with Cibo is the most significant. He also has a complex, adversarial relationship with Sanakan, a high-level Safeguard who first attempts to kill him but later has her role altered by the Governing Agency.

Killy undergoes a notable development when his latent Safeguard functions are accidentally reactivated. This event allows him to better understand and utilize his own cybernetic systems, such as his retinal Heads-Up Display, which he previously could not interpret. This development enhances his abilities, granting him automatic scanning for the Net Terminal Gene and a deeper connection to his own nature, though he ultimately rejects full registration with the current Safeguard system. Over the course of his long journey, his outfit changes multiple times, often regenerating along with his body, and his reliance on self-administered injections seemingly decreases as his control over his own regenerative and repair functions grows.

Killy possesses a range of notable abilities that make him a formidable force. His most iconic ability is his possession of a Gravitational Beam Emitter, a compact handgun of immense power capable of punching holes through the Megastructure's super-dense material for miles. The weapon's tremendous recoil can send him flying through walls and floors, and overuse can cause severe damage to his own body. He also exhibits superhuman strength and durability, surviving impacts and injuries that would kill a normal human, such as being thrown through solid concrete and having limbs broken or destroyed. He possesses a rapid healing factor that allows him to regenerate lost tissue and repair critical damage over time. He is equipped with a retinal HUD that allows him to scan the environment, analyze individuals for the Net Terminal Gene, and see objects from thousands of kilometers away. Furthermore, he has a data port connected to his nervous system that he can use to interface directly with other humans, machines, and even the Builder robots, allowing him to send commands or extract information.
