Born in Berlin, Germany on October 16, 1980, he has built a career lending his voice to a wide array of characters in Japanese animation, as well as in live-action productions. His work is primarily in German dubbing, making him a recognizable voice for anime fans in Germany and other German-speaking regions.

Ünal's career encompasses a broad spectrum of roles in anime, ranging from leading protagonists to supporting characters. One of his most prominent roles is as Ryuuji Takasu in the beloved romantic comedy series Toradora! and its associated OVA, The True Meaning of Bento. He voices the passionate and impulsive Shuichi Shindou in the music-themed series Gravitation and its OVA, Gravitation: Lyrics of Love. In the adventure series Orient, he is the voice of Kojirō Kanemaki. He also portrays the strategic setter Keiji Akaashi in the popular Haikyu!! franchise, specifically in Haikyu!!
