Description
Kojiro Kanemaki grew up in Tatsuyama Town with his father, Jisai Kanemaki. Their Bushi heritage made them targets of constant bullying from villagers swayed by Oni worshippers. As a child, he practiced swordsmanship alone until Musashi observed his skill and became his first friend. Following the death of Musashi's parents, Jisai took Musashi in; the three lived together until Jisai's execution by the Obsidian Eight, an event that traumatized Kojiro and caused him to initially doubt the Bushi path. He became self-sufficient early, surviving by taking odd jobs while living alone in the family hut.

Physically, Kojiro is a lean young man of average height, crowned by spiky blond hair and possessing yellow eyes. He initially wore a light-colored kimono and hakama, always carrying the sword inherited from his father. His facial structure strongly resembles Jisai's.

Kojiro demonstrates kindness and deep loyalty, particularly towards Musashi and later Tsugumi. Yet he frequently measures himself against Musashi, fostering an inferiority complex and self-doubt about his own capabilities. His early self-reliance cultivated resourcefulness and strategic thinking, often leading him to devise combat plans during battles. Personality assessments categorize him as ISFP (Introverted, Sensing, Feeling, Perceiving) and Enneagram Type 8w9, reflecting protective instincts, a desire for control, and occasional disregard for others' opinions when focused on his goals.

His development unfolds across key arcs:
* **Tatsuyama Town Arc:** Kojiro initially rejected Musashi's proposal to form a Bushi band, believing Musashi had abandoned their childhood dream. Witnessing Musashi's determination during a Kishin attack and his retrieval of Kojiro's swallowed sword led Kojiro to agree to join, reigniting his commitment to their shared goal despite lingering insecurities.
* **Kosameda Bushi Arc:** Kojiro collaborated with Musashi to free Tsugumi from her adoptive father Hideo. He strategized their escape during an Oni siege, demonstrating tactical leadership. His role in saving villagers solidified his resolve to protect others.
* **Daito Mine Arc:** Marking significant growth, Kojiro was appointed captain of the newly formed Kanemaki Bushi band after acquiring the Vorpal Cherry Blossoms sword, which accepted his blue soul during a trial. When Musashi proved unable to wield Kitetsu blades, Kojiro prioritized gathering intelligence on Kishin weaknesses for his friend's eventual involvement. He confronted Shiro Inukai of the Obsidian Eight alone to buy time for allies, reaffirming his willingness for self-sacrifice.

Kojiro's relationships define key character aspects. His bond with Musashi is central, blending deep loyalty with rivalry; he consistently supports Musashi while measuring his own worth against him. Jisai's influence persists through Kojiro's adherence to Bushi pride and swordsmanship teachings, though Jisai's death initially caused disillusionment. With Tsugumi, Kojiro develops mutual trust, often coordinating tactics with her during missions.
