Sōma Saitō
Description
Sōma Saitō is a Japanese voice actor and singer born on April 22, 1991, in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. He is affiliated with the talent agency 81 Produce and the record label Sacra Music. Saitō began his path to a voice acting career after winning the excellence award in the 2nd 81 Produce Audition in 2008, which led to him joining the agency and beginning his training. He made his debut as a voice actor in 2010, initially voicing minor roles while he studied at Waseda University, from which he graduated in 2014.
The year 2014 marked a significant turning point in his career, as he landed several major roles that brought him widespread recognition. These included Tadashi Yamaguchi in the sports anime Haikyu!!, Tatsumi in Akame ga Kill!, and Twelve in Terror in Resonance. For his performance as Twelve, Saitō received the Best Male Newcomer Award at the 9th Seiyu Awards in 2015, an honor he shared with fellow voice actors Ryōta Ōsaka and Natsuki Hanae. This early success established him as a rising talent in the industry.
Throughout his career, Saitō has taken on a wide array of roles across various genres. He has voiced protagonists such as Adlet Mayer in Rokka no Yūsha and Glenn Radars in Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor. He has also portrayed a range of other notable characters, including Hermes in the Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? series, Vinegar Doppio in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, and Gentarō Yumeno in the Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- multimedia project. More recently, he has voiced prominent characters like Hyōma Chigiri in Blue Lock and took on the lead role of Kenshin Himura in the 2023 reboot of Rurouni Kenshin.
In addition to his work in anime, Saitō has an extensive filmography in video games and other media. He is known for voicing characters such as Tsurumaru Kuninaga in the Touken Ranbu franchise, Ten Kujō in IDOLiSH7, and Chongyun in Genshin Impact. His voice work demonstrates a versatility that spans action, drama, comedy, and musical projects.
Saitō launched his solo music career in 2017 as the inaugural artist on the Sacra Music label, releasing his debut single "Fish Story" on June 7 of that year. He has since released multiple albums, including quantum stranger in 2018 and in bloom in 2020, for which he often writes lyrics and music. His musical work has been recognized with awards, including a Singing Award at the 13th Seiyu Awards in 2019 as part of the Hypnosis Mic cast, and another Singing Award at the 16th Seiyu Awards in 2022 for his solo efforts. Saitō announced his marriage to a woman outside of the entertainment industry on June 30, 2023.
