Description
Jimsa is a general of the Turanian army who becomes a supporting figure in the narrative of The Heroic Legend of Arslan: Dust Storm Dance. His most immediately noticeable trait is his youthful appearance; his face makes him look much younger than his actual age, often misleading those who meet him for the first time. Despite this young-looking visage, he is an experienced and highly capable warrior. His small build is a key asset in combat, granting him exceptional speed and quick movements on the battlefield, a skill in which he takes great pride.
In terms of personality, Jimsa is described as having a gallant and brave character, regarded as one of the most swift and courageous fighters in all of Turan. He is also notably blunt in his speech, preferring to tell things as they are without excessive politeness or ornamentation. This directness defines much of his interactions with others. His motivations evolve significantly over the course of the story. Initially serving as a loyal general for Turan, his fate takes a dramatic turn during the battle at Peshawar Castle, where he is led to an unimaginable destiny that alters the course of his life. After being captured and deceived by the strategist Narsus, he becomes an outcast from his own army, accused of failure. This leads him to eventually join the camp of Arslan, the prince of Pars, though he is initially reluctant. He does not see Arslan as an ideal leader by the traditional standards of a Turanian warrior, but he nonetheless contributes his skills to the Parsian cause in their fight against the Lusitanian invasion.
Jimsa holds several key relationships that define his role in the story. His relationship with Arslan begins with skepticism but grows into loyalty as he contributes to the prince's military victories. He shares a significant antagonistic connection with Narsus, whose schemes directly lead to Jimsa's downfall and subsequent defection from Turan. Later, he is aided by the Parsian general Kishward and a man named Zaravant, who helps him escape execution and insists on traveling with him to find Arslan's camp. After Arslan's eventual coronation, Jimsa takes on new roles, using his experience as a former enemy to train Parsian horsemen and suggest security systems for the northern border.
In terms of abilities, Jimsa is a uniquely versatile fighter. While he is very skilled with a sword, which he wields in his right hand, his true specialty is a much less conventional weapon for a mounted general: the blowgun. He is a master of this silent weapon, using poisoned darts to deadly effect against his enemies. A remarkable aspect of his combat style is his ability to ride a horse while simultaneously holding a blowgun in his left hand and a sword in his right, demonstrating extraordinary coordination and making him a formidable and unpredictable opponent on the battlefield. Later in the narrative, he embarks on an observation trip to the border, where he discovers a destroyed village and encounters supernatural threats, including creatures called ahura-viradas and the possessed Turanian ruler Ilterish, revealing the deeper dark forces at work in the world. He also takes in a young orphan girl he rescues, naming her Ofrul.
