Description
Ekusu Kurosu, also known as Jaxon Cross in English-language media and by his aliases Kamen X or Blader X, is the central protagonist of the Beyblade X anime and manga. He has blue hair with blonde highlights styled into distinctive "X"-shaped bangs and gear-shaped blue eyes. As Blader X, he wears a blue mask with a black lens featuring a gear pattern and a central red "X", a white hooded trench coat, a black turtleneck, blue shorts, brown leggings, and light gray sneakers with blue laces.
Trained in Beyblading by his master Ginro before age seven, Ekusu received Sword Dran, a Beyblade with a blue metal coating, as a parting gift upon mastering all available techniques. Their final battle saw Ekusu's "Xtreme Dash" launch chip the coating. Ginro explained this wear would progressively mark Ekusu's growing strength, making Sword Dran's transformation a visual chronicle of his development.
Ekusu later joined Team Pendragon, achieving an undefeated streak alongside members Khrome Ryugu and Sigrid Nana-iro and becoming champions of "The X" tournament. Feeling unchallenged at the pinnacle, he left Pendragon. Adopting the masked identity Blader X, he concealed his true self to start from the bottom ranks and reignite meaningful competition. His primary motivation was to eventually battle Khrome Ryugu seriously as rivals.
He founded Team Persona, named after his masked persona, recruiting amateur Blader Robin Kazami after Robin's team abandoned him. Influencer Multi Nana-iro later joined. Ekusu serves as the team's ace Blader, preferring battling over organizational leadership. His personality centers on finding pure enjoyment in Beyblading, contrasting with professionals who treat it as work. He exhibits a playful, sometimes lazy demeanor outside battles but transforms into a focused, exhilarated combatant during matches, often laughing maniacally when pushed to his limits. He possesses a Blood Knight mentality, relentlessly seeking strong opponents and expressing visible excitement at formidable challenges like the Feather Phoenix phenomenon or clashes with masked rivals Bladers Y and Z. He displays unconventional traits like an affinity for experimental sushi creations and an ability to quickly bond with animals.
His primary Beyblade remains Sword Dran 3-60F, an Attack-type whose worn metal coating chronicles his journey. He later acquires Dagger Dran 4-60R, Buster Dran 1-60A, and Courage Dran S 6-60V, each crafted by Multi. These Beys were damaged in his final battle against Khrome but subsequently repaired. His battling style relies heavily on variations of the "Xtreme Dash" technique, harnessing gear interactions between the Beyblade's Bit and the stadium's X-Celerator Rail to generate explosive speed and power. He develops numerous iterations: Standard, Double, Triple, and Infinite versions for sustained acceleration; Buster and Max variants for concentrated strikes; Elemental or situational adaptations like Sparking, Blizzard, or Air Ride; and Dragonic Break maneuvers requiring aerial precision.
Within Team Persona, Ekusu fosters Robin Kazami's growth and confidence while reminding him Beyblading should be fun. His dynamic with Multi Nana-iro revolves around mutual technical support for Beyblade maintenance and development. His most complex relationship is with former Pendragon teammate Khrome Ryugu, defined by Khrome's relentless pursuit of Ekusu's skill level. Their high-stakes battles culminate in Ekusu's victory, though not without significant damage to their Beys. Outside the team, he maintains a fondness for Taisho Sushiya's inventive sushi.
His catchphrase, "I'll show you something Xtraordinary" (or "I'll show you the invisible X" in Japanese), reflects his emphasis on speed and spectacle. Manga supplementary material notes his launch power measures 10000. Though an official Korean source listed his age as 13, cultural age-counting differences suggest he is likely 11-12 years old internationally.
