Description
Chion is a character from the anime and manga series The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse. He is the son of the Holy Knight Gilthunder and Princess Margaret of Liones, making him a member of the royal family. Chion serves as a Holy Knight of Liones and is a key member of the Tristan Platoon, led by Prince Tristan.
Chion is a young male with blue eyes and purple hair that falls to his neck. His typical attire includes a coat, gloves, and armour, and he wields a halberd (a type of poleaxe) in battle. He has a natural gift for a rare form of magic known as Spirit Arts. This art requires extremely precise pronunciation and allows Chion to summon spirits to aid him in combat, a skill he developed after discovering his talent for it as a child.
His personality is marked by a crude, cynical, and elitist nature. He frequently looks down upon those he considers to be "country bumpkins" or of a lower social class than himself. This bad attitude is largely a consequence of a traumatic childhood. When he was three years old, Chion was kidnapped by Vivian, a mage who had once been obsessed with his father, Gilthunder. Vivian held him prisoner for five years, forcing him to act as her "son." Chion managed to escape by mastering the Spirit Arts, a skill Vivian taught him in hopes he would inherit her work with curses.
Despite this ordeal, Chion was later kidnapped again by Vivian, who placed a spell on him. On this occasion, he was rescued by the young Prince Tristan. This event led Chion to develop a fierce and unwavering loyalty to the prince. Along with his childhood friends, Isolde and Jade, Chion is strictly devoted to Tristan and the royal family of Liones. This loyalty is his primary driving force, and his actions are consistently motivated by a desire to protect Tristan from any potential threat.
His cynicism leads him to distrust prophecies, even those originating from his own grandfather, the seer King Bartra. Instead, Chion prefers to rely on his own judgment and the people he personally believes in. This mindset causes him to clash with others, including the protagonist Percival. Convinced that one of the Four Knights of the Apocalypse could be a traitor, Chion attacked Percival and his friends, even using spirits to prevent them from speaking or defending themselves. He showed little remorse for these actions, placing blame elsewhere. For his assault on Percival, Chion was imprisoned and interrogated by his friend Jade, during which he explained that he always imagines the worst possible scenario and acts to guard Tristan against any imagined attack, not out of malice.
In terms of development, Chion begins as an antagonist to Percival's group, defined by his arrogance and prejudice. However, his character is rooted in a desire to serve, and he shows respect for figures of higher authority, such as the captain Guila and the former Seven Deadly Sins captain, Meliodas. His relationship with his father, Gilthunder, is not extensively detailed, but his birth and childhood were happy before Vivian's intervention. His closest relationships are with Tristan, whom he serves with fanatical devotion, and his fellow platoon members, Isolde and Jade, who have known him since his return to the kingdom as a boy.
