Description
Aizetsu is a supporting antagonist introduced in the Swordsmith Village Arc of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is one of the four emotion-based clones created by the Upper Rank Four demon, Hantengu. Specifically, Aizetsu serves as the physical manifestation of Hantengu's sorrow, a fact reflected in the Japanese kanji for sorrow etched onto his tongue. He is generated from the neck of Sekido, the clone representing anger, and embodies a unique combination of melancholy and tactical composure.

In appearance, Aizetsu takes the form of a tall young man with a lean yet muscular build. He has shoulder-length dark hair and two curved horns protruding from his forehead. His eyes are blue and feature the kanji for Upper Rank Four, marking his connection to Hantengu's elevated status. He wears traditional work-style clothing with long sleeves and a cross-shaped harness over his chest. In combat, he wields a yari, a type of Japanese spear that is cross-shaped. A notable physical trait is that his eyes are depicted as blue in both the manga and anime adaptations.

Aizetsu's personality is defined by a pervasive sense of sadness and negativity, often lamenting situations with phrases expressing how tragic or sorrowful they are. Despite this dejected and sour disposition, he is far from weak-willed. Beneath his melancholic exterior lies a surprisingly firm and determined character. He is one of the calmest and most collected among Hantengu's clones, demonstrating notable vigilance and composure in battle. Unlike the more playful and arrogant clones, Karaku and Urogi, Aizetsu is direct, cautious, and avoids careless mistakes. He possesses a keen analytical mind, carefully assessing his opponents' strengths and weaknesses before formulating a strategy. This tactical awareness makes him a dangerous adversary, second only to the leader, Sekido, in terms of strategic thinking.

Aizetsu's primary motivation, like the other clones, is to protect the main body of Hantengu. All of the clones are fundamentally loyal to their core being, prioritizing Hantengu's survival above all else. They also share a deep-seated loyalty to the demon lord, Muzan Kibutsuji, viewing him as the one who believed in Hantengu's innocence. In battle, Aizetsu fights with lethal intent, but he does not exhibit the sadistic tendencies common to many other demons. His role is to neutralize the threat posed by the Demon Slayers to ensure Hantengu's continued existence.

Within the story, Aizetsu plays a significant role as one of the primary obstacles during the Swordsmith Village battle. He is directly involved in the conflict against the Demon Slayer Corps, specifically engaging Tanjiro Kamado, Nezuko Kamado, and Genya Shinazugawa. His key relationship is with Sekido, the anger clone, who acts as the leader of the group. Aizetsu follows Sekido's commands more dutifully than the others, though he is eventually absorbed by Sekido without consent. His most notable adversary is Genya Shinazugawa. Despite possessing an attack powerful enough to kill an ordinary human instantly, Aizetsu finds his efforts repeatedly thwarted by Genya's unusual constitution and immense physical resilience. Genya manages to decapitate Aizetsu and even consume part of his flesh to temporarily gain demonic powers. Later, after regenerating, Aizetsu faces both Nezuko and Genya again in a stalemate that remains undecided. Ultimately, in the climax of the battle, Sekido forcibly absorbs Aizetsu along with Karaku and Urogi to merge into the more powerful and hate-filled entity, Zohakuten. As a clone, Aizetsu is finally eradicated when Tanjiro successfully kills Hantengu's true body.

Aizetsu possesses the standard physical traits of an Upper Rank demon, including superhuman strength, speed, and regeneration. His primary weapon is the yari spear he creates from his own flesh. His notable ability is a powerful thrusting attack that projects shockwaves over a significant distance. This technique is called Gekirui Shitotsu, or Furious Tear Thrust, which unleashes multiple powerful shockwaves capable of impaling opponents from afar. This is one of the few purely physical-based Blood Demon Arts among Hantengu's clones, and its raw killing power is exceptionally high. He can also manipulate the length of his spear at will, allowing for flexible close-quarters and mid-range combat. Despite these lethal capabilities, his effectiveness in the story is limited by the specific resistance of his main opponent, Genya, which prevents him from showcasing the full extent of his deadly potential.
