Description
Jirou Mochizuki is an Old Blood vampire and the central character of his story. He is a powerful being with black hair and dark eyes, often recognized for his distinctive attire which consists of a red suit, a long red coat, and a wide-brimmed hat. He is also frequently seen with a pair of goggles worn around his neck. Jirou carries a long katana with a blade made of silver, which he wields with great skill.

His background is rooted in the 19th century, where he was originally a lieutenant in the Imperial Japanese Navy. He was turned into a vampire in London by a woman named Alice Eve, after being severely injured while protecting her. He belongs to a unique lineage known as the blood of the Sage, a special line of vampires. This lineage is shared by only one other person: his younger brother, Kotaro Mochizuki, who is actually the reincarnation of Alice Eve herself. Jirou is known by several aliases, most famously the Silver Blade, a title earned for his legendary actions during a conflict known as the Hong Kong Holy War.

A hero of that war, Jirou sided with humanity to fight against a dangerous and prolific breed of vampires known as the Kowloon Children. In that conflict, he personally defeated their progenitor, the Kowloon King, and slaughtered countless members of its bloodline, earning him the fearful epithet of Kinslayer among his own kind. Despite this fearsome reputation, Jirou possesses a number of classic vampire weaknesses. He is highly vulnerable to sunlight, which causes his body to smoke and burn, and to water, which can cause severe damage to his form. He relies on his wide-brimmed hat and an umbrella to venture outside during the day. His brother Kotaro, however, does not share these particular vulnerabilities.

His personality is that of a taciturn and emotionally reserved individual, a demeanor shaped by centuries of life and the deep losses he has endured, particularly the death of his beloved Alice Eve during the Holy War. He is haunted by the past and carries a significant emotional burden, though he also displays a pragmatic and often gruff exterior. As a guardian, his primary motivation is to protect his younger brother, Kotaro, who is unaware of his true nature as the reincarnated Sage. Jirou is considered the Chosen Guardian, whose destiny is to one day return the Sage's blood that flows within him to Kotaro's body. This act would fulfill his purpose, but it would also mean his own end.

In the story, Jirou, accompanied by Kotaro, attempts to enter the Special Zone, a city built for vampires to coexist with humans. There, he becomes the escort and protector of a human company representative named Mimiko Katsuragi. His role is to defend her against the resurgence of the Kowloon Children, who are led by Cassandra Jill Warlock, known as Cassa. Cassa was once a close friend of Jirou and Alice, but she betrayed them by killing Alice, creating a complicated and bitter love-hate conflict between them. Jirou’s fighting style is elegant and lethally swift, befitting a master of the Shihyeon-ryu swordsmanship he inherited from his Chinese grandfather. His power is immense, allowing him to single-handedly defeat entire groups of lesser vampires and even challenge the most powerful Old Bloods and the Kowloon King himself.

Over the course of the narrative, Jirou is forced to confront his past and accept his destiny. After the final battle, he lives peacefully for a time with Mimiko, with whom he has formed a deep bond and eventually becomes a lover and father to a dhampir son. True to his role as the guardian, on the night Kotaro fully awakens as the reincarnated Sage, Jirou fulfills his purpose and is absorbed by his younger brother, finally returning the blood he had protected for so long. After his death, he is remembered as a hero of two major wars, with his iconic red silhouette becoming a symbol of the harmony between vampires and humans.
