Description
Inspector Ginzo Nakamori is the head of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's Second Division, a role that nominally focuses on fraud cases but has become almost entirely dedicated to the pursuit of the elusive international phantom thief, Kaitou Kid. He is a man in his early forties, characterized by his short, disheveled black hair, a thick mustache, and a standard build, often seen in his police uniform. His career as a police officer is defined by this singular chase; previously an inspector in homicide, he gave up that position to concentrate his full efforts on capturing Kid, having been involved in the hunt since his early days on the force, unknowingly facing both the original Kaitou Kid and the current successor.

Personality-wise, Nakamori is fiery, boisterous, and exceptionally self-confident. He is known for loudly barking orders at his subordinates and cackling with anticipation at the thought of his latest trap finally succeeding. Even after countless failures, he will proudly declare on live news broadcasts that this time, he will surely nab the thief. This confidence, however, is balanced by a significant impulsivity that often proves to be his undoing. He is easily drawn into chasing obvious decoys or prematurely shutting down security measures, frequently playing directly into Kaitou Kid's hands. Despite this, he is a hardworking and dedicated officer who loves his job, though he harbors a strong dislike for receiving outside help or having his failures mocked.

Nakamori's primary motivation is the professional and personal satisfaction of arresting Kaitou Kid and upholding the reputation of the police force. This pursuit is so central to his identity that he becomes depressed and worried when Kid lays low for extended periods, finding he has nothing meaningful to do. Beneath his intense rivalry, he holds a deep, if grudging, respect for the thief, acknowledging that while Kid is a criminal, he operates with a strict sense of honor and would never commit murder or other capital crimes.

In the story, Nakamori serves as the primary officer on the scene for nearly every Kaitou Kid heist, coordinating massive police operations to protect the targeted gemstones. He is a central figure in the movie The Last Wizard of the Century, where he leads the investigation into Kid's heist notice for the Imperial Easter Egg "Memories Egg," collaborating with the Osaka Prefectural Police, Superintendent Shintaro Chaki, and the sleeping detective Kogoro Mouri. A key relationship is his rivalry with Kogoro Mouri; the two inspectors often clash, engaging in childish arguments and physically pulling each other's faces to prove they are not the thief in disguise.

Outside of work, his most important relationship is with his daughter, Aoko Nakamori. While he is a caring father who wants to protect her, his all-consuming dedication to his job often distracts him from family life, to the point of forgetting her birthday. Ironically, he is completely unaware that his daughter's close friend and romantic interest, Kaito Kuroba, is the very Kaitou Kid he has sworn to capture. He also deeply appreciates the assistance of Conan Edogawa, who is often present during heists and helps unravel the thief's complex tricks, even though Nakamori dislikes asking for help in general.

While Nakamori rarely solves the central mysteries of a case, his direct, experience-driven abilities lie in police procedure and security coordination. He is a capable leader of a large task force, adept at setting up perimeter defenses and analyzing the basic patterns of Kaitou Kid's heist notices. However, his character shows little development in terms of success rate; he remains perpetually outsmarted, yet perpetually undeterred. His notable abilities are less about deduction and more about his resilience, his profound familiarity with the thief's methods (even if he cannot counter them), and his unwavering commitment to a single, seemingly impossible goal.
