ONA
Description
Ai Shiomi is the central character of the story, a young boy who discovers he possesses psychic abilities, known in this world as aura power. He is initially portrayed as an uncertain and reluctant individual who does not believe he belongs at the Psychic Academy, the elite school he agrees to attend largely due to pressure from his older brother. His lack of confidence stems from the fact that his own aura was discovered only by accident through recent bloodwork, leaving him with no knowledge of his capabilities or how to fit in among the other students.
Despite his self-doubt, Ai has a kind and well-meaning nature, though he has a tendency to unintentionally end up in compromising or embarrassing situations. He is fiercely protective of those he cares about, willing to stand up to any threat against his loved ones, a trait that reveals a hidden strength of character beneath his unassuming exterior. His motivations are largely driven by his relationships and a desire to understand his own mysterious power. He is initially motivated by a reunion with his childhood friend, Orina, for whom he holds romantic feelings. However, he also feels a strange and unexplained connection to a quiet and moody girl named Myuu, which becomes a significant driving force in his personal journey.
Throughout the story, Ai’s role evolves from a confused newcomer into a pivotal figure at the Academy. He struggles with the complexities of his new life, including rigorous training from a eccentric rabbit who appoints himself as Ai's master, and his conflicting emotions for Orina and Myuu. A major turning point is the revelation that Ai possesses an incredibly rare and powerful Light Aura, a secret his brother, Zero, tried to protect by fleeing with him when they were younger. This discovery makes him a target of great interest for researchers, but also grants him a unique place in the school.
Key relationships define much of Ai's experience. His bond with his older brother, Zero, a legendary psychic and instructor at the Academy, is central, as Zero acts as both a guardian and a mentor. His relationship with Orina is complicated by his mistaken belief that her affections lie with Zero, and he later discovers that the girl from his childhood memories is actually Myuu, with whom he shares a profound psychic link. This connection, which allows him to sense when she is in danger, forms the core of his romantic arc.
Ai’s development is marked by his gradual acceptance of his power and his place in the world. Initially unable to use his aura, with only two words of his Aura Code known, he grows in strength and confidence through training. At the peak of his power, his Light Aura is shown to have extraordinary abilities, including the manipulation of time around him, such as stopping falling debris or reverting a person back to childhood. He also learns to use his power to reveal an opponent's deepest secrets. By the end of the series, he has matured enough to choose to leave the Academy and join Zero on a global quest to awaken the aura of children around the world, demonstrating his final acceptance of his identity and abilities.
