Kongo is the protagonist of the anime Monkey Magic. He is a stone monkey born from an egg formed in the fires of space, magically brought to life. From his earliest moments, he is driven by an obsessive desire to learn and a deep need to become great, compelling him to leave his adopted family on Flower Fruit Mountain in pursuit of ancient knowledge and arcane wisdom. His personality is bold, brash, and highly ambitious. While he possesses a virtuous core, his cocky demeanor and refusal to accept any form of subordination or disrespect frequently lead him into conflict with higher powers. His primary motivation throughout the story is to gain immense divine strength and establish himself as the most powerful warrior in existence.

Kongo begins his journey as a restless and eager student of the mystical arts, seeking out the master Subodye to gain magical knowledge. He proves to be a quick learner, mastering the cloning technique and acquiring the magical Jet Cloud, a flying cloud that grants him supreme mastery over the air. Returning to Flower Fruit Mountain just as humans threaten his monkey family, he uses his new abilities to defeat the intruders and boldly proclaims himself their king. This act of defiance disrupts the order of the Celestial Heavens, leading to a direct confrontation with the gods. In an attempt to control him, the gods invite him to Heaven but assign him the lowest possible stable job. The humiliation of this position unleashes his full fury, sparking a full-scale rebellion. He rampages through Heaven, defeats powerful warriors like Lord Refang, steals the legendary Power Rod, and attains immortality. His conquest is only stopped by the supreme being known as the Guardian, who defeats Kongo and seals him under a mountain for five hundred years as punishment for his arrogance.

Kongo's relationships are defined by his ambition and pride. He holds deep respect for his teacher Subodye, who helps unlock his latent potential. He shares a fierce rivalry with Prince Nata of the Celestial Heavens, though he shows mercy at the request of the gentle Fania. His greatest adversaries are the gods of the Celestial Heavens, specifically the Jade Emperor and the warrior Lord Refang, whose attempts to humiliate him only strengthen his resolve. His monkey tribe on Flower Fruit Mountain remains his most loyal following and the original cause for his struggle against Heaven.

Kongo commands a wide range of formidable supernatural abilities. He can fly on the magical Jet Cloud, transform his shape into other living creatures, and create multiple exact copies of himself with his cloning technique. His greatest weapon is the indestructible Power Rod, a magical staff stolen from the heart of the Celestial Heavens that can change size according to his will. Additionally, his rebellion and consumption of divine fruits grant him immortality, making him virtually indestructible and positioning him as an unstoppable force of nature until his eventual defeat and imprisonment by the Guardian.
