Description
Dodo Obando, a third-year high school student, represents the USA on the U-17 World Cup Team. This African-American athlete possesses dark skin and thick curly hair, typically accented by a thin white headband. His extraordinary natural jumping ability earned him the nicknames "Birdman" and "The Aviator," serving as his primary tennis weapon. This gift allows him to leap higher than most opponents and gently cross the net mid-air, making his returns—like Ryoma Echizen's Drive B—nearly impossible to overtake.
He first meets Ryoma Echizen at the airport, waiting with teammates Ralph Rhinehart and Kiko Balentien to welcome Ryoma and his brother Ryoga to the USA U-17 Tennis Academy. Dodo immediately notes Ryoma's "good eyes." At the academy, he directs Ryoma to the executive office for registration and arranges their meeting in the café. After Ryoma defeats other prospects to claim the No. 14 representative spot, Dodo accepts Ryoma's challenge match when others decline. During their intense game, he unleashes his "Super Jump" technique. Witnessing Ryoma collapse from exhaustion after activating "Teni Muhō no Kiwami," Dodo carries him indoors rather than continue play, demonstrating his supportive nature.
Operating with an independent and proactive spirit, Dodo often travels via motorcycle. He functions as an older-brother figure within the team, naturally caring for others and unifying the group in support of the captain. His friendship with Ryoma mirrors Ryoma's dynamic with Momoshiro Takeshi, as both offer motorcycle rides and readily accept challenges others avoid. On the court, Dodo is an athletic all-rounder, combining his physical prowess with sharp strategic awareness.
Off the court, he treasures a penny found during an American sunrise as a good luck charm. His hobbies include touring, and during camp, he maintains a daily routine of morning, evening, and night showers. His favorite color is yellow, his preferred food the Double Whopper with cheese, and he enjoys "Alice in Wonderland." He seeks fashionable hair accessories for his girlfriend, harbors a fear of mice, and possesses basketball skills.
