Description
Nazca Birdmaiden is the tenth apostle who serves under Shingo Umoregi, the boy known as Akuma-kun. She hails from the Nazca Plateau in Peru and bears bird-like wings on her back, giving her an appearance that resembles an angel. In truth, she is a half-akuma born from a bird-human demon mother who came from an Easter Island demon tribe and a human father. Her mother broke the tribe's law by falling in love with a human and was punished by being exiled to the Nazca Plateau, where Nazca was born. The name Nazca is taken from her birthplace. Within the group of apostles, she is often called simply the Bird Maiden by most of her companions, though the older Mephisto and Yurg refer to her as Nazca.
Nazca Birdmaiden possesses a strong sense of justice and mission, making her a reliable and dependable ally. She is serious and earnest in her duties, though she can be somewhat strong-willed or stubborn at times. Despite her earnest nature, she is not without a lighter side; on occasion she joins in recreational activities such as attending a Bon Odori festival with Mephisto II and Koumori Neko. Her motivation is rooted in her desire to help Akuma-kun build a peaceful world where humans and demons can coexist. She is fiercely loyal to his cause and fights alongside the other apostles without hesitation.
Her role in the story is that of a combatant and scout. She can transform into a large white bird, allowing her to travel swiftly and communicate with birds. In battle, she uses her wings to generate powerful gusts of wind, with her signature attacks being Pink Hurricane and Pink Typhoon. These techniques unleash strong winds that can disorient or blow away opponents. She is also able to sense and understand the emotions of birds, a gift that ties closely to her heritage.
A key relationship is her bond with Koumori Neko, the bat-cat apostle. The two often engage in banter that resembles a comedic married couple, trading remarks during missions and downtime. This dynamic highlights her more expressive and occasionally exasperated side. She also respects the other apostles and works in coordination with them, though her direct interactions are most frequently shown with Koumori Neko.
Her character development centers on her discovery of her own origins. In a dedicated episode, she learns the full story of her mother and father: her mother was a bird-human demon who was cast out for loving a human, and her father was a man from Easter Island who had once achieved the title of Bird Man through an ancient ritual. Her mother painted a Nazca condor as a message of hope for her daughter before her death. When Nazca is offered the chance to restore her family's honor and return to her mother's tribe, she ultimately chooses to stay with Akuma-kun and continue fighting as his apostle. This decision solidifies her personal conviction and her commitment to the mission over the pull of her bloodline. Her abilities remain consistent throughout the story, centered on wind manipulation and avian transformation, with no major power upgrades shown.
