Description
Hishō Washizaki is the main protagonist of the anime Reideen the Superior. He is presented as a young man of middle school age, specifically a third-year student, with blue eyes and black hair that is cut to ear length. His typical attire includes casual items such as jeans and sneakers, reflecting his ordinary, everyday appearance before his extraordinary destiny is revealed.

Hishō lives with his mother and younger sister following his parents divorce, a family situation that has left them in a financially precarious position. This background of struggling to make ends meet contributes to his pragmatic and slightly reluctant nature. He has a tendency to get caught up in events, particularly if doing so could help support his family. This sense of responsibility and a willingness to act for the sake of others is a key part of his character, even if he does not always welcome the burdens that come his way.

The initial narrative drive for Hishō originates from a deeply personal tragedy. Before the main events of the series, his girlfriend, a girl named Ruri Miyasaka, fell from the roof of their school. He was a witness to the incident and carries a heavy burden of guilt, feeling responsible for being unable to stop her. This trauma defines his early emotional state, making him a sensitive and somewhat vulnerable individual. He maintains a daily ritual of visiting Ruri in the hospital, where she remains in a coma, demonstrating a deep well of loyalty and lingering pain.

His life takes a dramatic turn when he discovers a peculiar feather, an act that awakens ancient memories and sets the stage for his role in a cosmic conflict. This conflict is the continuation of the Holy Genesis War, an ancient battle between the heroic Reideen warriors and the evil Super Devils. Alongside four other teenagers, Hishō is chosen to embrace his destiny as one of Earths new superheroes, the Reideen. He becomes a member of a team known as the ANGELs, a group that operates under the cover of performing idol-related jobs at the request of their manager, Reiko Amagai. Hishō was reluctantly scouted by Reiko and joined the ANGELs partly for the opportunity to support his impoverished family, highlighting how his personal motivations often intertwine with his heroic duties.

Within the ANGEL team, Hishō assumes the role of the leader. His specific heroic identity is Reideen Eagle, and as such, he commands the power of fire. Among the five ANGEL Reideens, his combat parameters in attack, defense, technique, and speed are noted to be the most balanced, making him a reliable and central figure in their battles against the Super Devils sent by the mysterious being Lushu.

His relationships with the other team members are central to the story. He works alongside his fellow ANGELs, Ace Haneda, Ikazuchi Takagi, Ginga Torikai, and Hayate Ohtori, who transform into Condor, Hawk, Owl, and Falcon respectively. Beyond this immediate circle, Hishō shares a significant connection with a rival or allied group known as the Hearts. He has known Masato Tsubaki, the Reideen Phoenix from the Hearts, since childhood, indicating a long-standing personal history that adds depth to the interactions between the two teams.
