TV-Series
Description
Dr Go, also known as Dr. Mawari in the original Japanese version, is initially introduced as the main antagonist of the series. He is an eccentric and ambitious scientist who harbors a grand plan for world domination, intending to achieve it by creating an army of cyborg cats to serve as weapons of mass destruction. His real name is Mantaro Go. In terms of appearance, Dr Go is a short, stocky man shaped somewhat like an egg, with a prominent hairstyle that eventually recedes, leaving him bald on top. He is typically dressed in a white laboratory coat with yellow buttons, white pants, and black shoes, and notably, he has a pincer or claw in place of his right hand.
His path to villainy is rooted in a tragic past. As a poor, struggling student passionate about robotics, he once cared for homeless and dying animals. After his makeshift home burned down, an event that killed many of the orphaned cats he was trying to save, he swore revenge against humanity for its cruelty. This event cemented his determination to conquer the world, viewing his scientific experiments as a means to that end.
Dr Go's primary role in the story is set in motion when he kidnaps a black housecat named Kuro, transforming him into a powerful cyborg. His intention is to use Kuro as the ultimate addition to his Nyan Nyan Army (also known as the Cyber-Miao Miao Army) of robot cats. However, his plan backfires completely when Kuro destroys the control chip meant to keep him obedient and escapes, destroying Dr Go's laboratory in the process. From that point forward, Dr Go's main motivation becomes attempting to recapture or destroy his rebellious creation, leading to a recurring cycle of conflict.
Despite his role as a villain, Dr Go's personality is more comedic and bumbling than menacingly evil. His personality is characterized by a short temper and an excitable nature, but he is also portrayed as a kind and caring individual, especially towards his friends and creations. This is most clearly seen in his relationship with Mi, also known as Miikun, who is arguably his greatest and most loyal creation. Mi was a stray kitten Dr Go befriended and later rebuilt as a cyborg after the cat was killed. Mi pledges to be Dr Go's right hand, and the doctor cares for him deeply, with the two often living together in a scrapyard alongside another friend named Kotaro.
Over the course of the series, Dr Go undergoes a significant transformation. He eventually abandons his plan for world domination and chooses to live a more peaceful life. He transitions from being a persistent enemy to a sometimes-ally and friendly rival to Kuro, even providing him with repairs and upgrades when needed. Their relationship develops into a strange mix of friendship and hostility, built on their long and chaotic history together.
As a scientist, Dr Go is highly skilled and inventive, constantly building new machines, robots, and weapons to further his goals or aid his friends. While he rarely engages in direct combat himself, he has demonstrated the ability to fight, once donning samurai armor to confront a rival. His most notable physical characteristic is his pincer hand, which he lost during a past battle while trying to save Mi.
