TV-Series
Description
Patty la lapine, also called Patty Rabbit, is the main character of the anime Maple Town Stories. She is a young anthropomorphic rabbit girl with sand-colored fur, a cream muzzle, black beady eyes and a round pink nose. In the original series she wears a pink long-sleeved dress with a red bead and a white apron whose pocket carries carrot embroidery.

At the start of the story, Patty arrives in Maple Town with her family. Her father takes up the position of postmaster of the town's new post office, and the family lives next to it while taking on mail delivery as their occupation. Shortly after arriving, the thief Wilde Wolf steals her father's mailbag during a train heist. Patty feels responsible and chases him alone into the forest, where she meets Bobby Kumanoff, a bear boy of her own age. Together they recover the bag and outwit the thief, after which the Rabbit family settles in the town as its mail carriers. This early adventure establishes Patty's place in the community and marks the beginning of her close friendship with Bobby.

Patty has an active and outgoing personality. She is physically energetic and performs well at sports, being especially fast on her feet and possessing strong jumping ability. She tackles problems head-on and often resolves incidents through direct action, which sometimes leads to large commotions or outright failures. At the same time she is pure-hearted and earnest, with a straightforward character. She enjoys singing and has a good knowledge of the constellations. Fine and delicate tasks are not her strength: she can sew and knit but only with difficulty, and her cooking skills are so poor that her attempts in the kitchen almost never succeed.

Patty's motivations are tied to her sense of responsibility and loyalty. She helps her father deliver the mail, a duty that quickly brings her close to the townspeople and makes her a central figure among the students at Maple Town school. She is repeatedly shown protecting her friends and her new home, and she works together with Bobby to stop the plans of Wilde Wolf, the forest-dwelling thief who regularly causes trouble in the area.

Her key relationships include Bobby Kumanoff, her best friend and constant companion in adventure; her family, especially her older sister Ann, with whom she knits scarves; the wealthy Fanny Fox, with whom she often quarrels but who possesses a conscience and can apologize honestly when she is wrong; and Wilde Wolf, the recurring troublemaker she continually foils. Through these connections, her role in the story is that of the energetic heroine who helps bring the community together.

Over the course of the series, Patty develops from a newcomer into an accepted and respected member of Maple Town. She is the only main character carried over into the sequel series, in which she moves with her family to the tropical town of Palm Town. At the end of the sequel, her father's transfer takes the family to a northern town called North Town, and Patty says goodbye to the residents of both Maple Town and Palm Town, showing steady growth in maturity and experience across the two series.

In terms of abilities, Patty's notable traits are her speed, jumping power, singing voice, knowledge of the stars, and above all her courage and persistence. Her willingness to act even when a situation is risky is what allows her to solve problems, protect others, and recover from her frequent mistakes.
