Chun is a kyonshi, the Japanese term for a Chinese hopping vampire or jiangshi, who works as an aide to King Godo Tenrin, the Tenth Judge of Hell. She is a creation born from the practices of a Taoist priest, essentially a necromancer, who was the previous incarnation of her master, Godo Tenrin.

Chun possesses a deceptively cute appearance, but this facade belies an incredibly ferocious and powerful nature. She is known to be so strong that even the principal protagonist, the demon Hozuki, is no match for her in a fight. Her primary role in the bureaucracy of Hell is to capture the souls of the dead who attempt to flee from their assigned punishments.

One of the most significant aspects of Chun's background is her past relationship with the character Hakutaku, a physician who resides in Paradise. She is identified as Hakutaku's ex-girlfriend, and there is a history of conflict between them, apparently stemming from some wrong he committed against her. This personal history is a notable part of her story.

Beyond her duties as a catcher of errant souls, Chun also serves as the real-life model for the heroine of a very popular manga within the world of the series. A character named Yomogi, an otaku, is a fan of this fictional manga and is fascinated to learn about her as its inspiration. The reveal of her as the basis for a famous character adds another layer to her role in the narrative.
