Sakura Tange
Description
Sakura Tange is a prominent Japanese voice actress and singer, born on March 24, 1973, in Ichinomiya, Aichi, Japan. She is affiliated with the talent agency Picnic. Tange embarked on her career in the early 1990s, with her debut role being Yuki in the anime series Nintama Rantarou in 1994. Her early work included a variety of parts, such as Suzu Sakuma in Marmalade Boy and Saori Saga in You're Under Arrest. She also gained recognition for providing the voice of the character Kasumi in the Dead or Alive video game series.
Tange's career became closely associated with the video game company Konami, for which she performed numerous voice roles and released much of her music. Her first album, Be Myself, was released under the Konami label in 1996. She also served as a DJ for the first radio program dedicated to the Konami dating sim Tokimeki Memorial, a game in which she voiced the character Akiho Minori.
The role that established Tange as a leading voice actress was that of the title character, Sakura Kinomoto, in the immensely popular anime Cardcaptor Sakura, which aired from 1998 to 2000. The coincidence of sharing her first name with the character she voiced became a memorable point for fans. Her performance as the energetic and kind-hearted elementary school girl is widely considered her most iconic work.
In 2000, at the height of her fame, Tange withdrew from voice acting. She had left her agency Aoni Production at the end of 1999 to establish her own office but subsequently suspended her activities. While the precise reasons for her hiatus are not a matter of public record, it is documented that she remained out of the voice acting industry for approximately nine years. During this period, she continued to work in the entertainment industry, releasing music under different project names such as "Little Seraph" and "Sakura," and also began working as a children's story writer in 2008.
Tange made a formal return to voice acting in 2009. Her comeback roles were Rinko Kobayakawa in the Konami dating simulation game LovePlus and Kanon Hatori in the anime series Anyamaru Tantei Kiruminzuu. Her return was notable for the longevity of her career, as she successfully resumed playing major roles in prominent franchises.
Since her return, Tange has taken on a significant number of new and recurring roles. She became a staple of the Fate franchise, providing the voice for the character Nero Claudius, also known as Saber, starting with the 2010 game Fate/Extra and reprising the role in numerous sequels, adaptations, and spin-offs including Fate/EXTRA Last Encore, Fate/Grand Order, and Fate/Grand Carnival. She also rejoined the cast of Granblue Fantasy as Cagliostro and has voiced Cardinal in Sword Art Online: Alicization, Fitoria in The Rising of the Shield Hero, Illya in Princess Connect! Re:Dive, and Dorazou in BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense.
A notable moment in her later career was reprising her iconic role as Sakura Kinomoto in the 2018 sequel series, Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card, demonstrating her enduring connection to the character that defined her career. Her extensive filmography also includes the roles of Lulu Takigawa in Duel Masters Versus Revolution Final, Mill in Maze, Anita in Romeo and the Black Brothers, Yugami in Neko Kikaku, Violet in Dog Days, Mei Daimyōzamurai in If Her Flag Breaks, Omitsu in Legend of the Mystical Ninja, MAICO in Android Ana Maico 2010, Angela in Meltylancer: The Animation, the various roles in the Cardcaptor Sakura video and theatrical works, Aloise in The Dog of Flanders, Hinano in Trouble Chocolate, Yuri in Miyuki-chan in Wonderland, Midi the Girl in Voogie's Angel and its sequel, Reika Shuu in Debutante Detective Corps, Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate in the educational anime Eyedrops, Purin-chan in Norimono Man Mobile Land no Car-kun, and the 7-Colored Ribbon in Maji de Otaku na English!
