Description
Nero Claudius is a Saber-class Servant based on the historical fifth emperor of Rome, Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, reimagined as a young woman in the Fate universe. She is summoned in her prime, before the full decline of her reign, and carries the title of the Emperor of Roses. Her backstory draws from historical accounts, including her ascension through her mother Agrippina’s schemes, her popularity with the Roman populace through lavish policies and public performances, and her eventual downfall amid rebellions, though this history is reframed to portray her as a sympathetic and tragic figure.

Her personality is defined by a flamboyant, egotistical, and theatrical nature. She views herself as an almighty genius and a supreme artist, constantly seeking adoration and praise. She is innocently selfish and supremely cheerful, often acting with a childlike simplicity and a passionate, openhearted demeanor. Despite her haughtiness, she possesses an underlying kindness toward her subjects and Master, and she often compensates for self-doubt regarding her historical reputation as a tyrant. Her unconditional standard of justice is beauty, and she loves anything she considers beautiful, whether people, art, or performances. She is also deeply lonely and proud, never selling herself cheaply, and she values partners she deems geniuses on her own level.

Her motivations are driven by a strong sense of imperial pride and a love for the arts. She seeks to be recognized as the supreme artist and ruler, and she fights to protect her ideals of beauty and her empire. In combat, she is driven by a desire to demonstrate her talent and receive thunderous applause, viewing battle as another form of performance.

In the story of Fate/Grand Order, Nero appears in the Eternal Madness Empire: Septem singularity, where she allies with the protagonist and Mash Kyrielight against invading forces led by her tyrannical predecessors. She is a living emperor during this event rather than a summoned Servant. In the Final Singularity - Grand Temple of Time: Solomon, she fights as a Servant in the final battle to protect human history, deploying her abilities to support Chaldea’s forces against Solomon and the Demon Gods. Her role is that of a powerful combatant and a symbol of imperial will.

Her key relationships include her strong bond with her Master, whom she respects and trusts if they meet her expectations. She is loyal and protective of her allies, though she can be demanding. She interacts with other Roman figures and Servants, often displaying a combination of rivalry and camaraderie. Her relationship with her historical predecessors is one of opposition, as she fights to preserve her own vision of Rome against their tyrannical influences.

Her development is subtle, as she remains largely consistent in her self-assured and theatrical personality. However, she grows through her interactions with her Master and allies, showing a capacity for genuine affection and a willingness to fight for others beyond her own glory. Her historical reputation as a tyrant is a source of vulnerability, and her journey involves reconciling her self-image with the darker aspects of her legacy.

Her notable abilities as a Saber-class Servant include exceptional swordsmanship and a fighting style that is overwhelmingly well-balanced. She possesses the skill Imperial Privilege EX, which allows her to temporarily acquire skills such as Riding, swordsmanship, fine arts, Charisma, and Military Tactics through sheer assertion. She also has the curse of Headache Affliction, which hinders her mental skill success rates due to chronic migraines inherited from her past life. Her skill Invictus Spiritus, Thrice Even Though I Welcome the Setting Sun, grants her multiple revivals in battle, based on the anecdote of her final moments. Her Noble Phantasm is Aestus Domus Aurea, the Charmingly Beckoning Golden Theater, a recreation of her Domus Aurea that functions as an absolute imperial sphere. It is a great magecraft similar to a Reality Marble, deploying a golden theater that weakens opponents and allows her to use her sword technique Laus Saint Claudius, a powerful area-of-effect attack that ignores defense and reduces enemy defense. She also possesses a good survivability baseline in combat, with healing and defense buffs that make her an ideal choice for last-man-standing situations.
