Description
Awamo Okinawa is a character from the anime Zunda Horizon, where she is presented as a first-year middle school student attending the Furusato Girls Academy. Her outward demeanor is that of an untamed and free-wheeling lone wolf, a personality type that sets her apart from many of the other characters. She possesses a rather foul mouth and a rebellious streak, preferring to live life on her own terms without being bound by rules or social expectations.
Despite her rough and solitary exterior, Awamo is noted to be the most intelligent among the entire cast of characters in Zunda Horizon. This combination of high intellect and a desire for personal freedom defines much of her behavior. Her primary motivation is to live freely, as if being carried off by the will of the wind, and she resents anything that might restrict that liberty. This aspiration for absolute freedom also extends to her hobbies, as she enjoys fishing, a pastime that allows for patience and independence. Additionally, she is characterized by her impatience for excitement; she is always eagerly awaiting the next big event, and when the waiting becomes tiresome, she takes it upon herself to create that event.
In the narrative of Zunda Horizon, Awamo plays the role of an antagonist aligned with the Natto Factory, a group led by a character named Chanko Ooedo. The central conflict of the story arises from the fact that both zunda (made from edamame) and natto (made from soybeans) come from the same type of bean, harvested at different times. The Natto Factory fears a decrease in the quantity of soybeans available for their product, creating a rivalry with the zunda-making protagonists. As a result, Chanko specifically dispatches Awamo Okinawa, alongside her companion Meron Hokkaido, on a mission to assassinate the main protagonist, Zunko Tohoku, at her home.
Her key relationships are primarily defined by her affiliation with the Natto Factory. She works directly under the leadership of Chanko Ooedo and operates alongside fellow members such as Tsurugi Chubu and Shinobi Kansai, with Meron Hokkaido serving as her direct partner in the assassination attempt. While her role in the story is largely defined by this antagonistic mission, the narrative does not provide extensive details regarding her personal development or a significant character arc within the short format of the anime. Her role is largely functional, serving as an obstacle for the protagonists to overcome.
Regarding her notable abilities, Awamo wields a special harpoon which she calls the Awa-mori. This weapon possesses the unique power to enhance the instinctive abilities of its bearer, making her a more formidable fighter in combat. Furthermore, she has a peculiar ability to become intoxicated not by alcohol, but by drinking sugar water. Upon consuming it, she enters a drunken fighter state, which likely alters her fighting style and personality, potentially making her more unpredictable and dangerous in battle.
