Description
Banjo Ueki Tylor is the main protagonist of the anime The Irresponsible Galaxy Tylor, set in a time far beyond the era of the original series. He is a direct descendant of the legendary figure Justy Ueki Tylor, a man whose unique combination of optimism, skill, and extraordinary luck once brought peace to the galaxy and was hailed as the Pan-Galactic Emperor. In this even more distant future, the great political structures like the United Planets and the Raalgon Empire have long since declined and collapsed, leaving the people of the galaxy to live quiet, peaceful lives on various planets. Banjo himself works a modest and unassuming job as a garbage collector, spending his days picking up debris and trash in the outer reaches of a sidereal mega-structure's atmosphere.

In terms of personality, Banjo appears as an average young man with few immediately standout characteristics. He is gentle, optimistic, and carries a notably carefree attitude that strongly echoes the demeanor of his famous ancestor. He is often seen playing his beloved banjo to an audience of no one, seemingly content in his simple and uneventful existence. This laid-back nature defines his approach to life, and he does not seem driven by ambition or a desire for conflict. However, he is also described as having a bit of a perverted side, adding a minor flaw to his otherwise benign character. Despite his lack of interest in violence, Banjo appears to have inherited his forebear's incredible good luck, a trait that helps him navigate the dangerous situations he is soon to encounter.

Banjo's role in the story is set in motion when his routine trash collection leads him to stumble upon a derelict robot spaceship. Inside, he discovers a young girl frozen in a block of ice. Acting on a chivalrous impulse to not leave a damsel in distress, he awakens her, an act that inadvertently triggers a galaxy-wide alert to the various forces that seek to capture her. This girl is revealed to be Azalyn, also known as Goza the 168th, a person who holds the key to deciding the fate of the entire universe. As a result, Banjo's life is irrevocably changed, and he finds himself thrust into a grand adventure. He and Azalyn, accompanied by his multipurpose robot companion Yamamoto 372, set out on a quest to journey to the center of the galaxy with the goal of reviving the Galactic Republic or the Holy Raalgon Empire. The journey is fraught with hardships and challenges, and nothing ever goes as they originally planned, forcing the irresponsible Banjo to confront a destiny he never asked for.

Banjo's key relationships are central to the narrative. His primary companion is Azalyn, the girl he rescued, and their fates become intertwined as they travel together. He also relies on his robot, Yamamoto 372, who assists him in his daily work and on their adventures. Furthermore, his connection to his ancestor, Justy Ueki Tylor, serves as a significant backdrop to his character. Banjo is a successor to the legendary Tylor household, and as the story progresses, he may be forced to take on his ancestor's mantle in order to protect the peace that Justy worked so hard to achieve, especially when other characters who are fanatics of Justy emerge to challenge his legacy. His development throughout the series involves a gradual shift from a simple garbage collector to a figure caught in a galaxy-spanning conspiracy, testing whether his inherited optimism and luck will be enough to overcome the threats that now target him and his companions. Among his few notable abilities are his skill at playing the banjo and his seemingly passive but powerful inherited trait of incredible good fortune.
