Description
Cornelius Kaka is a character from Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt: Bandit Flower. Originally from Side 4, he serves as a mechanic and support crew member for the Earth Federation's Moore Brotherhood squadron, primarily stationed aboard the mothership Beehive.

Before the outbreak of the One Year War, Cornelius participated in air racing events on his home colony of Moore, where he formed a long-standing friendship with the gifted but reckless pilot Io Fleming and the young Claudia Peer. This pre-war connection deeply shapes many of his subsequent actions and loyalties.

In terms of personality, Cornelius exhibits a friendly, approachable, and caring nature. He is one of the few people who truly understands Io Fleming, recognizing that the pilot does not inherently enjoy killing but rather feels most alive when operating in life-threatening situations. He demonstrates consistent concern for Io's well-being, both physically and psychologically, often providing small gestures of support such as offering tissues to help with Io's allergic reactions in the hangar bay. Cornelius also possesses a diplomatic and compassionate side; during combat operations, he attempts to persuade retreating Zeon soldiers to surrender peacefully rather than resorting to further violence. Furthermore, he is a source of comfort for Claudia Peer, showing the kindness to support her when she nearly falls into drug addiction following the trauma of war.

As a chief petty officer and mechanic, Cornelius's primary role is the maintenance and repair of mobile suits, including the units piloted by Io Fleming. He is highly skilled in keeping the squadron's machines operational under the difficult conditions of the Thunderbolt Sector. Following the destruction of the Beehive, Cornelius is reassigned to the Federation warship Spartan, where he continues his engineering duties. In this capacity, he demonstrates a practical understanding of military strategy; he openly criticizes Io when the pilot allows the RX-78AL Atlas Gundam prototype to suffer excessive damage during missions, emphasizing the machine's critical strategic value against enemy forces like the South Seas Alliance.

Cornelius maintains several key relationships that define his character arc. His bond with Io Fleming is central, as he serves as a confidant and a moral anchor for the combat-driven pilot. He also shares a caring friendship with Claudia Peer, providing her with emotional support. His relationships are not solely limited to his childhood friends; he shows a general capacity for empathy toward others, including enemy soldiers.

The character undergoes notable development following the One Year War. Influenced by the enigmatic Levan Fuu, Cornelius's allegiance shifts. He joins the South Seas Alliance, a cult-like faction, but continues to operate as a covert informant while maintaining his position aboard the Spartan. This turn represents a significant change from his earlier role as a straightforward Federation mechanic, introducing a layer of complexity and duplicity to his character as the post-war political landscape evolves.

Cornelius possesses several notable abilities. His technical expertise in mobile suit mechanics is his primary skill, making him an invaluable asset to his squadron. He is also a capable field medic or support specialist, as he is familiar with the calibration and maintenance of prosthetic limbs, a crucial skill in an era of war where many pilots suffer severe injuries. Furthermore, he demonstrates interpersonal intelligence and a talent for diplomacy, using persuasion in an attempt to avoid unnecessary bloodshed. Physically, he is often depicted wearing military overalls or a mechanic's uniform, with some depictions showing blue hair and yellow eyes.
