Description
Liza is an eighteen-year-old orange-scale lizardkin demi-human from the anime Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody. She was originally a slave belonging to a man named Urs, and after his death she became masterless and trapped inside a labyrinth. Low-leveled and weak at the time, she pleaded with the protagonist Satou to take her with him, offering to serve as his literal shield. Satou accepted, naming her Liza by shortening her original name, which is too difficult for human tongues to pronounce; the name is not derived from the word "lizard," even though her former owner called her Lizard.
Liza is disciplined, serious, and mature, taking on a protective, sisterly role toward the two other demi-human girls rescued alongside her, Pochi and Tama. She often manages their behavior and ensures their safety. Her personality is defined by a strong sense of duty, deep loyalty, and gratitude toward Satou for treating her and the other demi-humans as people rather than tools or slaves. She is courageous and driven by a desire to prove herself worthy of the trust she has been given.
In the story, Liza serves as one of Satou's primary companions and the frontline protector of the group. She acts as a reliable lieutenant, carrying out his instructions and guarding the party during combat. Her key relationships include her sibling-like bond with Pochi and Tama, whom she looks after, and her deep respect and loyalty toward Satou, who saved her from a life of slavery and danger. She also interacts with other members of Satou's traveling party, though her closest ties remain with Satou and the two younger demi-humans.
Liza undergoes significant development over the course of the series. She transitions from a defensive, suspicious slave who doubted her own worth due to her demi-human status into a proud and elite spearwoman. Through Satou's guidance and the trust he places in her, she overcomes her self-doubt and becomes a formidable fighter, shedding the trauma of her past and embracing her identity as a capable warrior.
Her notable abilities center on spear combat. She is a skilled spearwoman, eventually wielding a powerful Magic Spear gifted to her by Satou. She specializes in using the spear in close-quarters battle, serving as the party's vanguard. Over time, her combat proficiency grows to match her determination, making her one of the stronger fighters in the group.
