Description
Kanan Matsuura is one of the main characters in Love Live! Sunshine!!. She is a third-year student at Uranohoshi Girls' High School and a member of the school idol group Aqours, where she also belongs to the sub-unit AZALEA. Her image color is emerald green.
Kanan was born on February 10 and stands 162 cm tall. She has long, flowing blue hair that is usually styled into a ponytail with a white hair tie and purple eyes. She lives with her grandfather on the offshore island of Awashima, where her family runs a diving shop. This upbringing has made her highly skilled in scuba diving and operating boats. In the anime, she temporarily has difficulty attending classes regularly because she needs to manage the family shop while her father recovers from a fractured bone.

Believing she was protecting her friend, Kanan deliberately sang off-key to ensure their group would fail, hoping this would allow Mari to pursue her studies abroad without feeling tied down by the idol group. After this event, the original Aqours disbanded, and Kanan grew distant from Mari, who left for overseas as planned.
Her motivations are driven by a deep care for her friends, often putting their needs and safety above her own. After Chika forms a new Aqours, Kanan initially refuses to join, still carrying the weight of her past actions. It is only when the truth about the failed performance is revealed and Mari confronts her, expressing that her friendship means more than any dream, that Kanan finally reconciles with her. She then agrees to rejoin the group as a full member, mending her relationship with Mari and bringing the three original members back together. Over the course of the story, Kanan develops from a withdrawn and self-sacrificing figure into a reliable and supportive senpai who fully commits to Aqours' journey, even returning to school full-time.
