Description
Meicoomon is a Champion-level Digimon and the partner of Meiko Mochizuki, introduced in the Digimon Adventure tri. series. Her design resembles a small, feral cat-like creature with distinctive long, scarf-like tufts of fur on her head and unique eyes with cross-shaped pupils. Despite her Champion-level status, which is typically a more advanced evolutionary stage, Meicoomon behaves in a very childlike manner. She enjoys playing and eating sweets alongside the other DigiDestined's Rookie-level partners, and she can be quite naive, which sometimes leads to unintended trouble. Her communication style is terse, as she rarely speaks and when she does, it is usually only in short sentences, yet her deep care for her human partner, Meiko, is always evident.
Meicoomon's central role in the story is defined by a tragic circumstance. It is revealed that she was born from a surviving fragment of the evil Digimon Apocalymon, and as a result, she carries a powerful infection within her data. This infection is the primary driving force of the plot, as Meicoomon is the source of a virus that causes other Digimon to lose their senses and become violent and feral. Her actions, driven by this uncontrollable infection, have severe consequences. In a traumatic event, she transforms into a more savage form called Meicoomon (Saltation) and kills Leomon, an act that deeply traumatizes her partner and the other DigiDestined. This event leads to the quarantine of all partner Digimon and sets the stage for the events of the film Confession.
The character is defined by her internal conflict and her relationship with Meiko, who acts as a stabilizing force to keep the residual malice within her in check. Throughout Confession, her reappearance forces the DigiDestined into a difficult situation. To stop the spread of the infection and save both the Human and Digital Worlds, a decision is made to trigger a Reboot of the Digital World, which would reset all Digimon data and erase their memories. During the ensuing battle, Meicoomon digivolves into her powerful corrupted Ultimate form, Meicrackmon Vicious Mode. She fights against the other partner Digimon, her infection spreading to them and complicating the battle. Ultimately, she is captured by HerculesKabuterimon and forced back into the distortion leading to the Digital World just as the Reboot occurs. However, unlike the other Digimon who are reverted to their In-Training forms with no memories, the Reboot only reverts Meicoomon back to her standard form, and she is seen hiding, still possessing all her memories of Meiko.
Her most notable and dangerous ability is the passive spread of her infection, which can bloodlust other digital lifeforms just by her being near them. This power makes her a threat not just to individual Digimon but to the stability of all worlds. She also possesses the power to create distortions or portals, allowing her to move between the Digital and Human Worlds. When her emotional state becomes unstable, particularly when she feels fear or abandonment, her latent power awakens, allowing her to take on more powerful and savage forms. Beyond her Saltation form and Meicrackmon Vicious Mode, she is capable of further dark digivolution into the corrupted Mega-level forms Raguelmon and, after fusing with a corrupted Ophanimon, the world-ending Ordinemon. Throughout her character arc, Meicoomon remains a tragic figure, a pure-hearted Digimon whose body carries a corrupting power beyond her control, making her both a victim and an unwitting threat to everything she and her partner care about.
