Description
Io Euclase is a young mage-in-training who hails from the Duchy of Valtz, where she studies as an apprentice to the legendary wizard known as the Iron Mage, Tzaka. She is a main protagonist and a proud member of the Grandcypher's skyfaring crew. Physically, Io is a petite eleven-year-old girl standing at 131 centimeters tall, with long blonde or beige hair often styled into twintails and accented with a hair ornament, as well as blue eyes. Her appearance carries a degree of contrast, sometimes described as having a light tan or a gradient in her hair color, which adds to her distinct visual design.
In terms of personality, Io is defined by her ambition and a fierce determination to be seen as mature and dependable, despite her young age. She is a gifted prodigy with magical talent, yet she remains deeply aware that she is still in training and works hard to improve her skills. This drive to appear grown-up often results in her acting in a precocious or self-important manner. However, this facade is easily broken; when she is teased or her age is pointed out, she quickly becomes flustered and reacts with childish indignation, revealing a temperament that is very much appropriate for her years. Beneath this spunky and competitive exterior lies a deeply loyal and compassionate individual who cares profoundly for her friends and crewmates.
Io's primary motivation at the start of her journey is to find her missing mentor, the Iron Mage Tzaka. It is during her investigation into his disappearance that she first encounters Gran and the other main characters. After the mystery surrounding her master is resolved, Io chooses to join the crew, driven by a desire to carry on his teachings of bringing smiles to people's faces. This decision cements her role in the story as a steadfast companion on Gran's quest to reach the island of Estalucia. Throughout the voyage, she acts as a key magical support for the group, and her personal goal evolves alongside the crew's shared adventures.
Her role in the story is that of a burgeoning magical powerhouse who often provides critical support in battles. However, her narrative significance is also deeply tied to her relationships. A particularly key relationship for Io is with her crewmate Rosetta. During the events on the island of Nahelgrande, Io undergoes intense training that forces her to witness Rosetta's painful past, including memories of loss and isolation. When Rosetta later decides to separate from the crew to confront a threat on Lumacie, Io is devastated by the departure, falling into a state of depression. This emotional low point highlights her deep attachment to her found family. In a crucial moment of character development, Io finds the strength to reach out to Rosetta, convincing her to stop sacrificing her own happiness and to stay with the crew for her own sake. Io's subsequent actions, such as fiercely defending Rosetta during a battle with Fenrir by demanding she not be treated as an object and later grabbing her hand in concern, show her growth from a student into a pillar of emotional strength and loyalty for those she loves.
As a mage, Io possesses notable magical abilities, primarily focused on offensive and restorative spells. True to her training, she is proficient in elemental magic, with her standard abilities drawing on water and ice to damage foes. Her skill set includes powerful healing magic, enabling her to restore the health of her entire party in the heat of battle, as well as abilities to cleanse debuffs from her allies. As she develops, her power increases significantly, culminating in her ability to form a pact and combine her strength with the primal beast Rosetta, also known as the Rose Queen. This alliance allows her to access devastatingly powerful light-based magic and complex abilities that scale in strength based on a magical vortex she can summon, showcasing her evolution from a talented student into a formidable sorceress in her own right.
