Description
In the anime Chiruran 1/2, Hajime Saitō is a tall man with a striking appearance defined by his wild, short white hair that sticks out in multiple directions. He also possesses a long white braid that reaches his waist, which he fastens with a distinctive pink bow. His eyes are a sharp yellow and are often compared to those of a cat, and he has thin eyebrows and lips. His typical expression is a smug and proud grin. For attire, he wears a black t-shirt under the Shinsengumi's standard robe and combines this with yellow hakama pants. He is always shown carrying two katanas.

His personality is notably combative and self-centered. Hajime is described as an ardent sadist who finds deep enjoyment in trapping his victims under a barrage of relentless attacks, much like a predator cornering its prey. He is a proud man who frequently treats situations and people with sarcasm and often demonstrates that he cares primarily about his own interests.

As the captain of the Shinsengumi's Third Division, he is incredibly powerful and possesses a sharp intellect, particularly when it comes to combat strategy. In battle, he has a habit of teasing and toying with his opponents, maintaining this taunting attitude even during fights that are otherwise quite serious. This behavior underscores his confidence in his own abilities as a swordsman.

Following his participation in the Boshin War, Hajime undergoes a significant personal transformation. He decides to change his life entirely, which includes altering his name and, most notably, cutting off his long braid to assume a new appearance and identity in this new era.
