Mayuki Hiiragi is a main character in Hinako Note. She is a second-year high school student who resides at the Hitotose bookstore in Tokyo and works at the on-site café, where she is almost always seen wearing a maid outfit. Her small stature and youthful appearance often make her seem younger than she actually is, and she has long blonde hair and blue eyes. Despite being an upperclassman to the protagonist Hinako Sakuragi and fellow resident Kuina Natsugawa, Mayuki frequently acts in a childlike manner, displaying a playful and talkative personality. She is prone to loneliness and has noticeable mood swings, but she also has a nurturing side and can be dependable when needed, especially toward her younger housemates. She enjoys being petted and craves attention, particularly from the landlady Chiaki Ogino. In fact, Mayuki’s initial lack of interest in theater stems from her feeling that it takes too much of Chiaki’s attention away from her. Mayuki is outgoing and energetic, contrasting sharply with Chiaki’s quieter and more reserved demeanor. Her favorite foods include shortcake and hamburger steaks. She is not deeply involved in the theater troupe activities but does support the group in her own way, such as by helping Hinako practice or by using her dancing skills to draw a crowd during a culture festival event. Mayuki also shows a thoughtful side, as when she calmly assists Hinako during a stage performance by improvising a replacement prop. In everyday life, she quietly watches over her friends with care, and despite her occasional clinginess, she proves herself to be a loyal and affectionate companion. Her physical smallness is often noted, but she always does her best in whatever she undertakes, whether working at the café or supporting the troupe.
