Description
Kurumi Nukui is a ten-year-old elementary school student with brown hair and cyan-green eyes, born on November 19. She is the younger sister of Kyō Nukui, the story’s central shut-in composer, and she shares a household with him, handling a significant portion of the domestic chores despite her age. At Shiromidai Elementary School she is known as a responsible and dependable figure, serving as the class representative of Class 5-2. Her everyday life places her in the same class as Jun Goto, Sora Kaneshiro, and Nozomi Momijidani, the three members of the orphanage band Lien de Famille.

Her personality is outwardly sharp and direct, especially toward her brother. She does not hesitate to scold him for skipping school and secluding himself, often delivering tart remarks about his lifestyle choices. Beneath that prickly exterior she carries a deep, affectionate attachment to him and genuinely enjoys his company. This mix of bluntness and warmth extends to her other relationships as well. While she is a classmate of the three band members, she occasionally feels a quiet twinge of jealousy over how comfortably they get along with Kyō, a feeling she carries without overt hostility.

Musically, Kurumi is a capable pianist who practices on a digital piano at home. Her skills prove instrumental when she later becomes the keyboardist for the rival unit Dragon≒Nuts, a group formed by Kiryu Yume and Yuzuha Aigae to challenge Lien de Famille. Her involvement in that band not only showcases her ability but also signals a shift from a purely domestic and critical role into active participation in the musical circle around her brother.

In terms of motivation, Kurumi is driven by a desire to see Kyō move forward rather than remain withdrawn. Her scolding and the advice she gives are rooted in a wish for him to take responsibility and reconnect with the world, even if she expresses it through exasperation. She is also motivated by a strong sense of duty, evident in her class representative work and her management of the household.

Her role in the narrative bridges the personal and the musical. Early on, she provides key information to Kyō—revealing that his new acquaintances are her classmates and that they are socially isolated at school, which adds depth to his understanding of the girls. Later, when Nozomi considers leaving to live with a newly discovered grandfather abroad, Kurumi pointedly calls out Kyō’s passive restraint and urges him to act, influencing the group’s decision to support Nozomi’s choice. Her decision to join Dragon≒Nuts adds competitive energy to the band dynamics and gives her a platform to express her own musical identity outside of her brother’s shadow.

Key relationships define much of her behavior. With Kyō, the bond is a complicated sibling affection sheathed in constant reprimand; she fusses over his failures yet stays firmly at his side. With Jun, Sora, and Nozomi, she shares a classroom routine and a growing, if sometimes begrudging, connection through music. Her collaboration with Yuzuha and Kiryu on the rival band introduces new layers of cooperation and rivalry that push her to grow as a performer.

Over the course of the events, Kurumi undergoes a subtle development. She starts as a sensible, somewhat bossy little sister who mostly watches from the periphery. By participating actively in the musical conflict, she moves from the sidelines into a direct role, demonstrating her skill and becoming more confident in expressing herself beyond domestic admonishments. Her arc shows that her criticisms of Kyō have always been underpinned by genuine care, and that this care, when extended into shared creative pursuits, helps both siblings evolve.
