Description
Caules Forvedge Yggdmillennia is the Master of the Berserker of Black in the Great Holy Grail War. He is a young man with an ordinary build, standing at 172cm tall, and weighs 63kg. He has chestnut-brown hair, blue eyes, and a boyish face often accented by light freckles on both sides of his nose. He typically wears a pair of black-rimmed glasses and is dressed in a white coat embroidered with golden leaves over black trousers, which serves as the uniform of the Yggdmillennia family.
Caules was born into the Forvedge family, a lineage of mages that had fallen into decline. His older sister, Fiore, inherited the family’s prodigious magical talent, a birthright that occurs only once a century. However, her powerful Magic Circuits caused damage to her body, leaving her unable to use her legs. Because of this, Caules was brought into the world as a "spare heir" and caretaker for his sister. While his sister was a genius, Caules was undeniably ordinary. The family concluded that even with her disability, Fiore was still the superior choice to be the successor, leaving Caules with the sole role of supporting her. This background heavily shaped his personality. He holds a pragmatic, almost detached view of magecraft, seeing it as an accessory to life rather than a life-defining pursuit. He is an unambitious but kind-hearted young man who prefers to lose himself in hobbies like reading manga and drawing cartoon illustrations rather than dedicating every waking moment to magical research. Although he can be coldly logical and acknowledges that, as a mage, he could kill his sister if their situations were reversed, he genuinely cares for her and is often tasked with mediating her interactions with the outside world, such as teaching her how to use a mobile phone.
Caules did not seek to join the Holy Grail War. He traveled with his sister from their home in Germany to the Yggdmillennia stronghold in Romania simply as her backup. Unexpectedly, he began to show signs of Command Spells and was compelled to participate. To summon a Servant, he used a catalyst provided by his sister: the original blueprints of Frankenstein's monster. This summoning brought forth the Berserker of Black, Frankenstein. Because of his low magical aptitude, he was assigned the Berserker class, which relies more on raw power than tactical nuance. His primary motivation throughout the war is not to win the Great Grail or reach the Root, but to ensure his sister's survival. He is a reluctant participant who often questions the absurdity of the war but shows remarkable strategic sense when forced to act. He fights not for glory but out of a sense of duty and familial responsibility.
The most significant relationship in Caules's life is with his older sister, Fiore. He respects her talent and feels a protective responsibility for her, largely because her intense focus on magecraft has left her oblivious to the normal workings of the world. Within the story, he serves as her support and, eventually, her replacement. Another crucial relationship is with his Servant, Frankenstein. Although she is driven mad by the Berserker class and cannot speak in full sentences, Caules treats her with respect and kindness. He sits with her and attempts to understand her feelings, forging a bond of mutual trust that transcends their lack of verbal communication. He ultimately honors her desire for a noble death in battle, using his Command Spells to amplify her suicidal final attack.
Over the course of the Great Holy Grail War, Caules undergoes significant development. He begins as a passive, almost disinterested mage who is simply going through the motions because his family expects it. However, his bond with Frankenstein awakens a sense of pride and commitment in him. After her sacrifice, he becomes more active in the struggle. When his sister is offered a chance to walk again by relinquishing her magic, Caules supports her decision and accepts the burden of the family's magic crest onto his own body. He evolves from a "spare" into the acting head of the Yggdmillennia clan, taking responsibility for negotiating the clan's surrender after the war. Following the conflict, he enters the Clock Tower in London as a ward of the Mage's Association. There, he becomes a student of Lord El-Melloi II, who recognizes that Caules's talent does not lie in his family's spiritual evocation but in the practical application of electrical magecraft.
As a mage, Caules is considered mediocre at best. His natural talent is low, and he was only able to sustain a Berserker-class Servant due to the massive mana reserves provided by the homunculi of the Yggdmillennia family. He specializes in spirit evocation, specifically the summoning of low-ranking spirits, insects, and small animals. He is also capable of using basic healing magic. However, his greatest strength is his practical intelligence. He compensates for his lack of raw power by incorporating modern technology and scientific principles into his craft. After inheriting his family's crest and receiving tutelage from El-Melloi II, he develops a proficiency in bio-electricity and electrical magecraft. One of his notable spells is "Crafted Tree," which unleashes a lightning attack reminiscent of his former Servant's Noble Phantasm. He also utilizes a Mystic Code known as the Primeval Battery to adjust bio-electric currents, enhancing the healing abilities of himself or others.
