Description
The Archer who appears in Fate/Extra Last Encore is a Servant whose true name is not spoken, often referred to as Nameless. He is a tall, lean young man appearing to be in his mid-twenties, with white hair, tanned skin, and a distinctive red overcoat worn over black armor. This version of Archer is nearly identical in appearance and basic nature to the Archer from Fate/stay night, but they are not the same person and carry different true names.

His background is that of a guardian rather than a traditional hero. In life, he was an ordinary human who made a pact with the Moon Cell, a powerful computer that governs the lunar world of the Holy Grail War. He sacrificed his afterlife, becoming a Counter Guardian, in exchange for a miracle to save over a thousand people from a nuclear meltdown at a power plant. As a result of this pact and the circumstances of his service, his name was erased from history, leaving him a completely nameless heroic spirit who fights without recognition or reward.

In terms of personality, Archer is a calm, cool-headed cynic with a dry and sarcastic wit. He presents himself as a professional who does not let personal feelings interfere with his duties as a Servant, often maintaining a stern and unapproachable demeanor. Despite his harsh exterior, he is also deeply caring and helpful, especially towards his Master. His personality makes him well-suited to supportive roles such as a butler or a teacher, though he would likely deny this enthusiastically. He harbors a complicated relationship with his own past and ideals, viewing his younger self's utopian dreams as foolish, yet he is still driven by a fundamental desire to protect and serve his Master.

Archer's motivations are complex. As a guardian, his core purpose is to act as a repairman of the ages, eliminating threats that accelerate humanity's collapse. In the context of the Holy Grail War, his primary motivation is to serve his Master loyally and see them through to the end of the conflict. His role in the story of Last Encore is as a potential Servant for the protagonist, Hakuno Kishinami. He appears as a broken, stone-like statue at the end of the first episode, having been summoned to the Seraph and forced to act as a guardian of its rules for a thousand years. His initial attack on Hakuno is slow and methodical, leading to speculation that he deliberately drove the protagonist to a specific location to summon another Servant, hinting at a level of agency and hidden purpose even in his deteriorated state.

Key relationships in his history are primarily defined by his connection to his Masters. He forms a strong bond with Hakuno Kishinami, showing a level of faith and loyalty that surprises even himself. He also has a notable connection to a version of Tohsaka Rin, a talented hacker in the Fate/Extra universe, for whom he shows a strange sense of nostalgia and familiarity. In Last Encore, he also interacts with other Servants, such as Saber, whom he fights alongside depending on the narrative path.

Archer undergoes notable development throughout his appearances. While he begins as a cynical and seemingly cold individual, his partnership with Hakuno allows him to move past his own regrets. Unlike his counterpart in Fate/stay night who was consumed by self-loathing and a desire to erase his own existence, this Archer has largely escaped that obsession, accepting his past and present as separate. He even openly refers to himself as an ally of justice again, a term he once despised, demonstrating a significant reconciliation with his core ideals.

Archer possesses several notable abilities that make him a formidable Servant. His primary skill is Projection magic, the ability to replicate any weapon, particularly swords, he has seen simply by imagining it. This allows him to create countless copies of famous armaments, though they are typically one rank lower in power than the originals. Despite being an Archer, his preferred combat style is close-quarters, using a projected pair of Chinese swords named Kanshou and Bakuya to overwhelm opponents who expect a ranged fighter.

His ultimate ability is the Reality Marble known as Unlimited Blade Works, a manifestation of his inner world. This takes the form of a barren landscape littered with countless swords and gears beneath a sky of spinning cogs. Within this space, he can instantly project any weapon he knows and use them as projectiles, firing them from massive gears as if from a cannon. For defense, he can project Rho Aias, a powerful shield that originally belonged to the Trojan War hero Ajax, which provides near-absolute protection against thrown weapons. He is also a master of household chores, a talent he has acquired through necessity but would prefer not to be known for.
