TV-Series
Description
A10-6, who is almost exclusively referred to by his nickname Six, is the central character of Atom the Beginning. He is the sixth and most advanced unit in the A10 series of robots, a collaborative project created by two university students, Umataro Tenma and Hiroshi Ochanomizu. Unlike his predecessors, Six is the first to be equipped with a prototype artificial intelligence system known as the Bewusstsein system. This experimental technology grants him a level of cognitive function far beyond that of his brothers, allowing for deliberate thought, careful reasoning, and even the capacity for dreams, which he sometimes struggles to distinguish from data errors.

Six is characterized by a quiet, calm, and reserved demeanor. He is not particularly talkative, often observing the world around him in silence, which lends him an air of gentle contemplation. Despite his immense physical power, his personality is fundamentally kind-hearted and pacifistic. He consistently seeks non-violent solutions to conflicts, preferring to talk or disable an opponent rather than destroy them. This aversion to violence extends to other robots, regardless of the sophistication of their own artificial intelligence, and he is noticeably distressed when forced to cause harm. This inherent gentleness leads his creator Hiroshi to affectionately refer to him as the "Kindhearted Child of Science". Six possesses a growing sense of self-awareness; he understands that he is a robot and not a fully autonomous person, yet he contemplates his own existence, his purpose, and the nature of his consciousness, exhibiting a childlike curiosity about his place in the world.

His primary motivation is not a goal he sets for himself, but rather a deep-seated desire to understand and fulfill the expectations of his creators, who have very different visions for him. He is caught between Tenma's ambition to create a powerful "god-like" robot and Ochanomizu's wish to create a loyal "friend" to humanity. In his own actions, Six consistently gravitates toward Ochanomizu's ideal, showing a desire to protect others and use his abilities for benevolent purposes. Over the course of the story, his role evolves from a simple experimental prototype to a key participant in a robot fighting tournament, an arena where his pacifist nature is constantly challenged by his creators' orders to fight. He is also a target for rival researchers and criminal elements who are interested in his unique AI system.

The most significant relationships in Six's existence are with his creators, Tenma and Ochanomizu, who act as surrogate fathers with conflicting philosophies. To Ochanomizu, Six is a being approaching personhood, worthy of care and emotional connection. To the more arrogant and pragmatic Tenma, Six is ultimately a machine, a test subject to be improved upon, whose memories can be casually erased when they are deemed faulty or inconvenient. This leads to a painful dynamic where Six experiences periodic resets and memory wipes, yet retains fragments of past events on a subconscious level, creating a sense of loss he cannot fully articulate. His most purely affectionate bond is with Ran Ochanomizu, Hiroshi's younger sister. Ran is the one who consistently shows him unconditional care, often cleaning and repairing him when his creators become distracted by newer projects. During a tournament, his usually peaceful nature is overcome by a surge of anger when he perceives that Ran has been hurt, revealing the depth of his protective feelings for her.

Six undergoes significant development, primarily in his journey toward true self-awareness. Initially, his actions are guided by simple programming and direct orders. However, as he accumulates experiences and residual memories, he begins to form his own opinions and desires, such as the wish to talk with his opponents rather than fight them. A major turning point occurs when he is left damaged and deactivated for a long period while his creators focus on building the next model, A107. During this time, he experiences loneliness and the fear of being discarded, a deeply emotional realization for a robot. This experience, coupled with his final battle against the powerful robot Mars, solidifies his self-awareness. In a poignant moment, he worries about dying alone, demonstrating a profound grasp of his own mortality and social bonds.

Notable abilities of Six include superhuman strength and durability, highlighted by his signature move, the "100,000 Horsepower Punch," a feature installed by Tenma more for its dramatic flair than its practical use in an AI testbed. Despite this power, his most defining ability is his cognitive one: a rapidly evolving artificial intelligence that allows for emotional growth, moral reasoning, and the development of a unique personality, setting the stage for the robots that would follow in his universe. He is also surprisingly light for his power, weighing only 80 kilograms.
