TV-Series
Description
Daigo Kurogami, also known as Daina Kurogami, is a prominent character from the Beyblade Burst series. He is the older brother of Ryota Kurogami and was originally a member of the Beigoma Academy BeyClub before being scouted to represent France in the World League as the leader of the team AS Gallus.
Daigo is easily recognizable by his pale complexion, shadowed black eyes, and spiky black hair which he holds up with a red bandana. His edgy appearance is accentuated by his typical attire, which includes a black jacket with purple stripes and red flame designs worn over an orange t-shirt, black pants and boots, and various skull-themed accessories such as a belt buckle, a necklace, and two multicolored skull bead chains attached to his bandana. These skull motifs are a visual reference to his Beyblade, Doomscizor, which is based on the Grim Reaper.
His personality initially matches his dark and edgy appearance, as he usually keeps a cool, calm, and collected demeanor and tends not to show his emotions openly. He is a very competitive blader who is passionate about winning and is also a talented strategist, great at analyzing battles and predicting his opponents' moves. Despite his outward confidence, he remains open-minded about his competitors, often seeing hidden potential in them and choosing not to underestimate anyone. Alongside Shu Kurenai, Daigo frequently acts as a voice of reason for Valt Aoi and the other members of the BeyClub. He also displays a keen sense of observation, noticing when his friends are troubled or upset.
While he is usually cold and distant, Daigo reveals a much softer and more caring side when it comes to his younger brother, Ryota, who is in a hospital. His devotion to his brother is a significant driving force for him. Upon joining the Beyblade Club, while he retains his chill attitude, Daigo takes on a friendlier, more outgoing, and expressive demeanor. He highly values the friendships he forms, admitting that while he used to only care about winning, his friends have helped him grow as a person and a blader.
A critical part of Daigo's character development stems from a moment of weakness caused by his insecurities about failing to live up to others' expectations. This led him to use an illegal move during a battle against Yugo Nansui. The overwhelming guilt from this act of cheating caused him to quit both the BeyClub and Beyblading altogether. However, with help from Shu and his friends, particularly Valt who refused to give up on him, Daigo overcomes his guilt and returns to the sport with a renewed sense of integrity. He makes a personal vow never to break the rules again and has little tolerance for others who use cheap tricks or dishonesty.
His role in the story evolves from a rival observer to a loyal friend and teammate. He shows a strong sense of loyalty by staying with the BeyClub when other members left. When he is scouted to join AS Gallus in France for the World League, his exceptional passion for Beyblading and his leadership skills shine through. His dedication motivates his demoralized teammates, who were on a long losing streak, to start training again, which ultimately earns him the position of team leader.
Daigo's key relationships are central to his character. His bond with his younger brother Ryota is his strongest motivation; he idolizes Daigo and is a constant source of support. Daigo was particularly afraid of what Ryota would think if he discovered his brother had cheated. His friendship with Valt Aoi is also pivotal. Initially, Daigo recognized Valt's potential and even provoked him during a match, but after realizing Valt reminded him of his own brother, they became close friends. Valt's unwavering support helped Daigo return to Beyblading after his cheating incident. Within the BeyClub, Daigo often mediates arguments between the hot-headed Rantaro Kiyama and the prideful Wakiya Murasaki, acting as a peacekeeper. He is also very close with Ken Midori, as the two are the more calm and level-headed members of the original club.
Over the course of the series, Daigo develops from a lonely, distant blader burdened by insecurity into a confident, loyal, and respected leader who values fair play and friendship above simple victory. He learns from his past mistakes and his passion for the sport reignites, not just for winning, but for the camaraderie and growth it brings.
In battle, Daigo is known for his analytical skills and special moves. His primary Beyblade throughout the Beyblade Burst Evolution series is Krusher Doomscizor 2Vortex Hunter. His notable special moves include the Quake Launch, which uses Doomscizor's unpredictable movements and speed to deal a large amount of damage, and the Hunt Launch, which provides a boost of speed and even more erratic movement. Another signature technique is the Double Strike, where after the initial hit, an additional secondary scythe on the Energy Layer slides back to deliver a powerful second strike.
