Description
Hotaru Furuya is a first-year high school student, attending class 1-3 and a member of the broadcasting club. She stands at 142 centimeters tall, making her notably small in stature, and has a youthful appearance with long indigo or purple hair that she typically wears in two low braided ponytails, complemented by light-purple or pink eyes. She is the younger sister of Jun Furuya, who is in a higher grade and also involved with the broadcasting club.
On the surface, Hotaru is generally a kind and sweet girl. However, this gentle demeanor is dramatically overshadowed by a strong big brother complex. When any girl shows interest in or flirts with her brother Jun, her personality transforms completely, becoming rude, aggressive, and childlike in her attempts to drive them away. This aggressive streak is well-known; some of her male classmates, such as Chihiro Souma, are reportedly scared of her because of it. Despite her domineering attitude regarding her brother, she is also somewhat gullible and easily teased, a trait she shares with Jun himself.
Hotaru's primary motivation and central role in the story revolve directly around her relationship with her older brother. She is extremely possessive of Jun and believes that no girl is worthy of him, leading her to actively try to sabotage any potential romantic connection he might have. Her key relationship, therefore, is with Yuki Minagawa, a girl who is involved with Jun. Hotaru initially dislikes Yuki intensely, often declaring that she hates her and believing that Yuki has a nasty personality and is tricking her brother. Despite her efforts to force them to break up, Hotaru experiences gradual development over time. After spending more time with Yuki, she begins to slowly accept her, coming to the conclusion that Yuki might not be so bad after all.
Outside of her brother complex, Hotaru is also involved in the broadcasting club, which serves as a point of connection to her brother and other students. In an omake chapter, a character named Akitsuki confesses his feelings to Hotaru, mirroring the way her brother was confessed to. Apart from her fierce and sudden shift in personality when her brother is involved, she does not have any notable special abilities.
