Description
Maya Mikuri is one of the main protagonists of the anime ID-0. She is a student at the Planetary Alliance Academy, where she studies astrogeology under Professor Attomy Kinsberg. During a field exercise on a remote asteroid, an explosion separates her I-Machine from her body, and her professors abandon her. The Excavate Company, a group of Orichalt miners often compared to space pirates, rescues her I-Machine, and she later agrees to work with them to repay the debt and to clear her name after being falsely blamed for leaking information. Maya has short light brown hair and bright green eyes. She is highly intelligent, sharp-witted, and curious, with a strong aptitude for theoretical physics and mechanics. However, she is also timid, soft-spoken, and polite, often lacking self-confidence and becoming easily flustered in high-risk situations. Early in the story, she serves as a naïve newcomer and an audience surrogate, gradually learning the ways of the crew and the deeper implications of the world she has entered. Her motivations evolve from simply repaying a debt to a genuine desire to understand the mysteries surrounding the mineral Orichalt, the Evertrancers, and the true nature of identity. Throughout the series, she develops greater courage and competence, growing from a nervous student into a more resilient and proactive member of the team. Key relationships include her partnership with Ido, an Evertrancer whose consciousness permanently resides in an I-Machine. She forms a bond with him and the other crew members, such as Captain Grayman, and also interacts with Lieutenant Amanza Volchkova of the United Planets Force. Her growing connection with the mysterious girl Alice, discovered inside an Orichalt deposit, further deepens her involvement in the central conflict. Notably, she demonstrates the ability to interface her consciousness with Ido’s I-Machine, merging their memory archives to operate in a joined mode during a dangerous mission. Her astrogeology knowledge proves valuable to the Excavate Company’s mining operations, and she becomes a capable I-Machine pilot as she gains experience, eventually helping to defend the ship and protect her companions in critical situations.
