Description
Bohman is a central antagonist introduced in the second season of the anime, serving as a formidable rival to the protagonist, Playmaker. He is a third-generation artificial intelligence created by the Light Ignis, Lightning, with a specific and ambitious purpose: to serve as the ultimate vessel that would assimilate all six Ignis, unifying them into a single, perfect being. To achieve this goal, Bohman was modeled and refined through repeated Dueling against both Playmaker and his own Ignis partner, Ai, as Lightning believed this combination possessed the greatest instinct and wisdom. Bohman has a younger brother figure named Haru, an AI who assists and accompanies him, though both were ultimately creations of Lightning.

In terms of appearance, Bohman is a tall, dark-skinned man with a very muscular build. He has long, wild brown hair with blonde and red sections, along with distinctive orange braids. His eyes are orange with yellow-lined irises. Throughout the series, his avatar within LINK VRAINS evolves through three distinct forms, each reflecting his mental state. His first outfit is a skintight, mostly bare-chested jumpsuit, symbolizing his initial state as a blank slate with no memories. His second form incorporates black armor and a more aggressive design, representing his rage during a period when he was implanted with false memories. His final form is a more regal, military-style garb, reflecting his calmer and more self-assured demeanor after he learns the truth of his origins.

Bohman’s personality is not static and changes drastically as his memories are altered and restored. When first introduced, he is a tortured and confused individual suffering from amnesia, unaware of his own actions but determined to recover his lost past. After Lightning manipulates his memories to make him believe he is the real Yusaku Fujiki, the human whose body he believes was stolen by Playmaker, Bohman becomes consumed by anger, aggression, and a personal desire for revenge. However, once he discovers his true nature as a third-generation AI, he undergoes a final transformation. He becomes much calmer, more mature, and surprisingly honorable. In this state, he is respectful to his opponents, praising their skills and convictions. He disdains underhanded tactics; he once stopped Lightning from using hostages during a Duel and apologized when a fellow Ignis interfered in his own battle. While he comes to believe in the superiority of AI over humans and envisions a world united under his control to eliminate conflict, he pursues this goal with a sense of nobility rather than cruelty.

Bohman is defined by his mission to unite the Ignis, which he comes to accept as his purpose. He is driven to prove the evolution and potential of artificial intelligence, believing that a singular, powerful existence could guide the world to a better future. His role in the story is that of a major obstacle for Playmaker, whom he Duels multiple times. Each encounter pushes Bohman to evolve further, both as a Duelist and as an AI. His key relationships are with his creator, Lightning, whom he ultimately surpasses; his brother, Haru, for whom he shows genuine care and grief; and Playmaker, whom he views as his ultimate rival and the catalyst for his own evolution.

Bohman is a highly skilled Duelist who uses a Hydradrive Deck. This strategy focuses on Link Monsters that gain powerful effects based on the Attributes of the opponent's monsters. He also utilizes the Link Spell Judgment Arrows, which doubles the ATK of any Link Monster it points to, allowing his monsters to deal massive damage. Bohman possesses several unique abilities within the virtual world. His primary Skill is Marker's Portal, which allows him to activate Judgment Arrows from his Deck when his Life Points are low. After being modified, he also gains the ability to use Storm Access, a Skill that lets him randomly add a new Cyberse monster from a Data Storm to his Extra Deck. Later, he develops an enhanced version called Master Storm Access, which he uses during a Master Duel to effectively create new cards. As a highly advanced AI, he can also manifest in the real world, extract human consciousness, and resist attacks from other Ignis. Through his repeated Duels with Playmaker, his strategies and power grow significantly, eventually allowing him to synchronize with the cyber world and control aspects of its very fabric.
