TV-Series
Description
Karin Yuuki, also known by her former name Isht Karin Orte and her original identity as Judas Iscariot, is an immortal member of the organization UQ Holder, designated as Number 4 and bearing the title Saintess of Steel. She possesses a short black hair and black eyes, with a toned and developed physique. Her typical attire consists of a school uniform when on missions and a maid outfit while at the organization's base, and she is usually armed with a long hammer and a sword carried horizontally across her lower back. On her back is a distinctive tattoo featuring the Roman numeral XIII beneath a star set between what appears to be wings.
Karin’s immortality is the result of a divine curse, inflicted upon her following her betrayal of Jesus Christ for thirty pieces of silver in 1st century Jerusalem. Her nature as Judas Iscariot is the source of her profound self-hatred; she views her condition not as a gift but as a punishment, feeling unforgivable for her past actions and often expressing a desire to die, though her curse makes true death impossible. The specific mechanism of her immortality renders her body completely invulnerable to physical harm. While she can feel pain, she cannot be injured, cut, or bruised, with any damage healing instantly. This absolute defense, combined with her ability to generate a powerful white light known as Divine Light, makes her a formidable combatant.
In personality, Karin is stoic and often difficult to read, maintaining a cool and expressionless demeanor in most situations. However, this facade breaks in the presence of Evangeline A.K. McDowell, whom she calls Yukihime. After being saved by Yukihime from a witch burning in 1492, Karin developed an intense and fiercely loyal admiration for her, bordering on zealous devotion. This loyalty initially manifests as a strong distaste for the protagonist, Touta Konoe, simply because of his close relationship with Yukihime, with Karin going so far as to try to eliminate him. She has a noted intolerance for perverts and frequently berates or physically strikes Touta for what she sees as his perverse or reckless behavior. Despite this harsh exterior, she possesses a more compassionate side, showing warmth to vulnerable children and expressing regret over her failure to save others in time.
Karin’s role within UQ Holder is that of a veteran operative and a strict guardian to newer members. Her initial hatred for Touta gradually softens as she witnesses his strength, willpower, and kind nature. A significant turning point in their relationship occurs when Karin, forced to confront her painful past, reveals her true identity as Judas to Touta. This moment of vulnerability allows them to form a Pactio, a magical contract that bonds them as partners, with an embrace described as that of lovers. Over time, despite her stubborn denials, she develops deep romantic feelings for him. This is most plainly demonstrated after she is stranded alone in space for 45 years, during which the isolation torments her and she thinks only of Touta; upon his rescue, she breaks down and confesses her love. Her other key relationships include a calmer friendship with Kuroumaru Tokisaka, whom she encourages to choose the female gender to be with Touta, and a professional camaraderie with her ally Ikkuu Ameya. Throughout the story, Karin is involved in numerous major missions, including infiltrating a school to hunt a rogue immortal, traveling to the past to fight powerful mages, and participating in the final battle against the god-like being Ialdabaoth. In the distant future, over 12,000 years later, she remains in a polyamorous relationship with Touta and Kuroumaru, continuing her immortal existence.
