Description
Archid Alter, commonly known by his nickname Kid, is a close friend and devoted disciple of the protagonist Ernesti Echevarria. He is the twin brother of Adeltrud Alter, known as Ady, and the son of the influential Marquis Joachim Serati, though he is recognized as an illegitimate child. Physically, Kid is depicted as a tall young man with spiky black hair and light yellow eyes, often seen wearing a maroon coat with white and gold highlights.
Kid’s personality is marked by a calm and laid-back demeanor, which often serves as a grounding presence for his more excitable companions. While he appears relaxed and sometimes bluntly speaks his mind, he is deeply loyal and courageous, particularly when his friends or his principles are at stake. Despite his easygoing nature, Kid is prone to recklessness when his emotions run high, demonstrating a willingness to take impulsive but brave actions, such as piloting an incomplete Silhouette Knight into battle to help his allies. He holds his personal honor in high regard, a trait that becomes central to his character arc when he pledges himself as a knight to a distressed princess.
His primary motivation is rooted in loyalty to his friends and a strong sense of duty. Initially, he is content to follow Ernesti's lead, serving as a supportive friend and a capable pilot within the Silver Phoenix Knights. However, his role evolves as he finds a personal cause: protecting Princess Eleonora of the Kuscheperca Kingdom. After rescuing her from captivity, he swears an oath to be her knight, an act that gives him a clear, independent purpose beyond his association with the main protagonist.
Within the story, Kid begins as one of Ernesti’s first friends and training partners, enrolling with him in the Royal Laihiala Knight Runner Academy. He and his sister Ady become key members of the Silver Phoenix Knights, with Kid serving as the Knight Commander's adjutant. His combat skills make him a valuable asset and test pilot for new Silhouette Knight models like the Sendrug. Later in the narrative, he is formally transferred from the Silver Phoenix Knights to become the aide-de-camp to Prince Emris of the Premevila Kingdom, effectively acting as a dispatched diplomat to Kuscheperka, which allows him to stay close to Queen Eleonora.
His key relationships define much of his development. His bond with Ernesti is foundational; he learned magic from Er and considers him a mentor, often helping to restrain his friend’s more obsessive tendencies. His relationship with his twin sister Ady is close, as they train and fight together as a formidable pair. A significant part of his story involves his romantic relationship with Queen Eleonora. After he vows to protect her, she develops strong feelings for him, and despite his concerns about their difference in status as a foreign-born bastard, her persistent affection and the political backing from the Premevila Kingdom make their union highly likely. His relationship with his half-brother, Baltsar Serati, is initially antagonistic due to jealousy, though they eventually reconcile.
Kid undergoes notable development from a supporting friend to a character with his own significant arc. He struggles with his identity as an illegitimate child, which makes him initially hesitant about his relationship with the queen. However, his actions—saving Eleonora multiple times and his dedicated service—earn him official recognition, as the king formally acknowledges him as the son of Marquis Serati, resolving his status concerns. His journey eventually leads him to the floating continent as part of an expedition with Prince Emris, where he is captured by native harpies, adding a new and unexpected chapter to his story. Through these experiences, he grows from a somewhat generic sidekick into a knight who must navigate politics, romance, and his own sense of self-worth.
In terms of abilities, Kid is a first-class Silhouette Knight pilot whose combat skills rank among the top of the Silver Phoenix Knights. While his magical power and control are not on par with Ernesti’s genius, he compensates with superior physical strength, endurance, and swordsmanship. His fighting style prioritizes raw power, especially using body enhancement magic to overwhelm opponents, contrasting with his sister Ady’s focus on delicate magical control. His bravery and determination in battle are as crucial as his technical skill, allowing him to perform heroic feats such as single-handedly charging an enemy warship to protect the queen.
