Description
Asuha Kusunoki is a senior at Shinjugamine Girls' School, where she holds the positions of both student council president and the captain of the Hoshimori, the school's defensive force. She is a striking figure with long, straight dark blue hair and sharp green eyes. Standing at 163 centimeters tall, her demeanor is one of serious composure and discipline, which makes her a role model for many of the younger students.
Asuha comes from a traditional Japanese family that is deeply connected to the battle against mysterious forces. Her family, the Kusunoki, is one of three families that support the Hoshimori, and her mother was a Hoshimori in the past. This background instilled in her a strong sense of duty, discipline, and personal responsibility. She is proficient in traditional arts like tea ceremony, calligraphy, and archery, reflecting her upbringing. Despite her composed exterior, she has a few notable fears, including a dislike of thunder, ghosts, dark places, and visiting the dentist. Her tastes in food are also specific; she loves soba and other buckwheat dishes but strongly prefers them over Western-style cuisine.
Her personality is defined by a strict and serious nature. She holds herself to an incredibly high standard, which can sometimes be perceived as a lack of a sense of humor by her peers. Beneath this rigorous exterior, however, is a sweeter side that emerges once she grows close to someone, and she can display tsundere-like traits toward those she truly likes. Her primary motivation is a deep-seated sense of guilt over a catastrophic event known as the "Judgment Day," which occurred five years before the main story. She constantly blames herself for this incident, and this burden is a driving force behind her unwavering commitment to her duties as a protector.
Asuha's role in the story is central, as she is not only the student council president but also the leader of the Hoshimori team. In this leadership capacity, she is responsible for guiding and protecting her classmates in battle. Her key relationships are primarily with her fellow senior students. She is close friends with her classmates Anko Tsubuzaki and Renza Kocho, the latter of whom often relies on Asuha's strength and judgment. Her development as a character is highlighted by a significant contrast between her present self and her past self. Five years prior, as a first-year middle school student, she was much more cheerful, energetic, and openly admiring of her senior, Itsuki-sensei, whose strength she aspired to match. The cheerful novice she once was has since transformed into the serious, burdened leader she is in the present timeline.
In terms of combat abilities, Asuha is a highly skilled fighter. In her present timeline, she wields a high-frequency blade katana and possesses the power to transform into a battle outfit known as a Star Dress, with her signature form being Flora, which is associated with the color blue and the epiphyllum flower. In contrast, her younger, past self used a naginata and had not yet mastered the Star Dress transformation. She has also participated in special activities outside of her primary duties, such as serving as the leader of an idol group called Sirius and as a member of another unit named MUTE.
