Description
Princess Charlotte, known throughout most of the story simply as Princess, is a young woman who appears before the public as a member of the royal family of the Kingdom of Albion and is fourth in line to the throne. She is also the niece of the Duke of Normandy, a powerful minister who becomes one of her most dangerous political adversaries. A defining element of her background is that she was not born into royalty. During the revolution that tore her country apart, a commoner girl and the true princess, who closely resembled each other, secretly exchanged identities. The person known to the world as Princess Charlotte was originally a commoner named Ange, while the true-born princess later adopted the name Ange while operating as a spy for the Commonwealth. The two girls had known each other since childhood and had made a private promise to change the world together, a promise that became the foundation of their lifelong partnership.
