Description
Eri Honjou, also known by the nickname Ellie, is a key character who acts as the partner and girlfriend of Shirou Yusa. Born on October 16th, she stands 166 cm tall and has a Libra zodiac sign and AB blood type. She comes from a wealthy and prominent family in Suwahara City, as her grandfather is the director of the Honjou General Hospital. By day, she maintains the image of an honors student at the prestigious Koutoku all-girls school, presenting herself as a proper young lady from a good family. However, this public facade is a deliberate act, as she privately leads a double life. At night, she transforms into a rebellious and skilled hacker known as Ellie, and she also operates as the de facto ruler and "Queen of the Night" of a nightclub called Bottomless Pit, where she effectively manages several businesses.
In terms of personality, Eri is depicted as a highly intelligent and talented individual with a broad range of knowledge and quick thinking, making her a well-rounded and capable person. Despite her privileged upbringing and academic success, her defining trait is a destructive and self-destructive way of thinking. She finds no joy in her conventional life and is instead drawn to danger and the thrill of the moment. For Eri, her only source of happiness is the fleeting excitement she experiences when sharing experiences with Shirou Yusa. She is fully aware that this path may lead only to ruin, but she is completely indifferent to that outcome and embraces the risk without hesitation. This intense and almost reckless bond with Shirou is the core of her existence in the story. She is driven by an intense hatred of being left out, and the feeling of being an outsider to important events is unbearable for her, which is why she aggressively investigates the supernatural conflicts occurring in Suwahara City.
Eri's role in the narrative is primarily as Shirou Yusa's closest ally and companion. She becomes involved in the central conflict after meeting Shirou following a violent fight between him and Ren Fujii, the protagonist. While Shirou was hospitalized, Eri visited him, helped him sneak out of the hospital, and the two quickly grew close, eventually taking over the club Bottomless Pit together. She is not a supernatural being but rather a highly capable normal human who uses her wits and resources to survive and assist Shirou in his battles. Her personal history includes a childhood incident where she accidentally witnessed a secret meeting between her grandfather and a member of the Longinus Dreizehn Orden, which cemented her desire to uncover those who control the city from the shadows. Her key relationships are centered on Shirou, who is her partner and motivation, but she also interacts with other major characters like Ren Fujii and Kasumi Ayase during the course of the story, such as when she leads Ren to Shirou by calling him a "murderer".
Throughout the story, Eri demonstrates significant growth and resilience, particularly in her refusal to be consumed by the supernatural forces she faces. In one narrative route, she is absorbed by the power of a powerful being but maintains her sense of self and later reforms her own body to fight alongside Shirou. She possesses a soul strong enough to resist being digested by a holy relic, a testament to her willpower and connection to Shirou. In a future epilogue, she is shown to have inherited her family's hospital and serves as a support contact for the protagonist and his friends as they travel the world. Her development is further explored in the spin-off light novel Dies Irae: Wolfsrudel, which details her motivations for creating her club and her first encounter with Shirou.
While Eri is a normal human and does not possess innate magical powers, she has a wide array of remarkable abilities. She is a highly skilled hacker, capable of breaking into government servers to gather information on the secret organization known as the Longinus Dreizehn Orden. Due to spending a significant amount of time around Shirou Yusa, she has acquired a limited sense of foreknowledge, though she cannot use it as effectively as he can. Beyond these, she is extraordinarily versatile, with self-taught skills in lip-reading, handling firearms without hesitation, and possessing extensive medical knowledge from her family background. Her practical and hands-on abilities extend to modifying the electrical systems of her club and performing sabotage, making her a formidable ally despite lacking supernatural powers. In the related work Kajiri Kamui Kagura, the reincarnation of both Eri and Shirou appears as a character named Tenma Sukuna.
