Description
Kensuke Ōshiba is a main character in the Hitorijime Boyfriend manga and a secondary character in the Hitorijime My Hero anime. He is a first-year high school student who is known for his cheerful, hyper, and energetic personality. Kensuke is often seen smiling and is very caring, frequently showing concern for his friends, including Masahiro Setagawa and his childhood friend Asaya Hasekura. He has a deep love for animals and enjoys spending time playing video games. Despite his outwardly friendly nature, Kensuke can be quite stubborn and extremely dense, often remaining oblivious to the feelings of those around him, including Hasekura's romantic interest and the relationship between his brother and his best friend. As the story progresses, he demonstrates personal growth, becoming more mature while retaining his signature childlike energy. He is also shown to be confident when it comes to his own romantic relationship, often initiating intimacy despite initially blushing or appearing shy.

Kensuke is physically small for his age; he often claims to be 170 cm tall, but his actual height is 160 cm. He has brown hair, brown eyes, and a youthful appearance. In casual settings, he prefers wearing sweaters or t-shirts with text or pictures, often paired with shorts or jeans. His birthday is on April 15th.

Kensuke serves as a key connecting figure in the story as the best friend of protagonist Masahiro Setagawa and the younger brother of Kousuke Ōshiba. His personal storyline primarily revolves around his rekindled romance with Asaya Hasekura. The two were inseparable childhood friends who enjoyed going on adventures together and once got stuck on a mountain, an incident from which they were rescued by Kensuke's older brother. They created a book together called Tales of Bravery, documenting their childhood exploits. When Asaya moved away, Kensuke was heartbroken and grew to resent him for leaving. Upon Asaya's return in high school, Kensuke initially felt guilty for his resentment and tried to avoid him. It is revealed that Asaya had a crush on Kensuke since childhood, and it is later confirmed that Kensuke had reciprocated those feelings when they were kids, although he did not realize the depth or duration of his own romantic interest until much later. After a period of confusion where he thought Asaya was joking about his feelings, Kensuke came to understand his own emotions, and the two began dating.

His role in the wider narrative is that of a supportive friend. He met Masahiro Setagawa when they found a near-dead kitten, which they named Sasa, and Kensuke brought both the kitten and Masahiro into his home. This event also marked the first meeting between Masahiro and Kensuke's older brother, Kousuke. Kensuke shares a very close bond with Masahiro, often eating together and supporting him through the ups and downs of his relationship with Kousuke. Conversely, Masahiro also gives Kensuke advice when he is unsure about his feelings for Asaya. Kensuke is deeply upset when Masahiro distances himself from the group.

Regarding his family, Kensuke has a very protective older brother, Kousuke, whom he has been terrified of since childhood, even into his high school years. Despite this fear, he looks up to his brother, who encourages him regarding his relationship with Asaya. Their father is a dedicated man who often works abroad, a trait Kensuke admires deeply. His mother, Miho, is very kind and loving, though not a great cook, a fact Kensuke tolerates out of habit. He also maintains a close circle of school friends, including Mitsuru Fukushige and Tsuyoshi Yamabe, who often visit his home. His friendship with Jirou Yoshida began when Kensuke noticed Yoshida following Masahiro around.
