Yoshitsugu Matsuoka

Description
Yoshitsugu Matsuoka is a Japanese voice actor born on September 17, 1986, in Hokkaido, Japan. He is affiliated with the talent agency I'm Enterprise. His path to becoming a voice actor began at the age of 15 when he was inspired by Akira Ishida's performance in Neon Genesis Evangelion. Initially aspiring to be an auto mechanic, he decided to pursue voice acting and moved to Tokyo after high school to attend Yoyogi Animation Gakuin, funded by working as a newspaper scholarship student. He later joined the Japan Narration Actors Institute and successfully auditioned for I'm Enterprise in 2009, making his debut that same year with a minor role in Eden of the East.

Matsuoka's first leading role came in 2011 as Narumi Fujishima in Heaven's Memo Pad. His performance garnered attention, and he won the Best New Actor award at the 6th Seiyu Awards in 2012. That same year marked a significant turning point in his career when he was cast as Kazuto "Kirito" Kirigaya in the immensely popular series Sword Art Online, a role that brought him widespread recognition and has become one of his signature characters.

He continued to secure leading roles in numerous anime adaptations, including Sora in No Game No Life (2014), Sorata Kanda in The Pet Girl of Sakurasou (2012-2013), Sōma Yukihira in Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma (2015-2021), Bell Cranel in Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (2015-present), and Tomoya Aki in Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend (2015-2019). In 2016, his portrayal of Bell Cranel helped him earn the Best Lead Actor award at the 10th Seiyu Awards. His range as a voice actor extends to more intense and villainous characters, such as Betelgeuse Romanée-Conti in Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World and Freed Sellzen in High School DxD.

Matsuoka has maintained a consistently high level of productivity throughout his career. In 2019, he was recognized by the Guinness World Records for providing the most unique sound bites—over 10,000 words—by a voice actor in a mobile game, specifically for his role as Bell Cranel in Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?: MEMORIA FREESE. His filmography from the late 2010s and 2020s continues to expand with prominent roles in major series. He voices Inosuke Hashibira in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (2019-present), Fūtarō Uesugi in The Quintessential Quintuplets (2019-present), Takashi Mitsuya in Tokyo Revengers (2021-present), and Mechamaru Ultimate in Jujutsu Kaisen (2020-2021). He has also taken on roles in popular video games, such as Xiao in Genshin Impact and Fandaniel in Final Fantasy XIV.
