ONA
Description
Lars, whose full name is Lars Ulu Metallicana, is the prince of the Kingdom of Metallicana and the older brother of Princess Sheila. Fifteen years before the events of the series, he fought a prolonged battle against the dark wizard Dark Schneider, who had already conquered most of the known world. Overwhelmed and with no other option, Lars summoned the Dragon Knight, a colossal mechanical construct originally created by the Twelve Wise Men of Europa to be used against the demon Anthrasax. The Dragon Knight channeled and amplified Lars’s spiritual energy, allowing him to finally kill Dark Schneider. However, the armor carried a curse; it had never been intended for a wielder who was not the designated ultimate user, and the magical backlash transformed Lars into a small, infant-like dragon.

In this reduced form, Lars lost his human appearance and the ability to speak normally. Only Dark Schneider could understand his vocalizations and communicate with him. After his transformation, Lars was taken in by Gara, one of the Four Lords of Havoc, and kept as a pet. He later left Gara’s side to accompany Dark Schneider after the wizard’s resurrection, acting as a quiet observer. Lars is fully aware of his past history with Dark Schneider and the enmity that once existed between them, but he chooses to remain close, partly out of a lingering sense of duty to find a worthy successor for the Dragon Knight.

Lars’s personality is marked by bravery and a fearless nature, traits that defined him as a human prince. He is determined and resolute, though his dragon form limits his ability to act independently for much of the story. His primary motivation shifts over time: initially, he fought to defend his kingdom and protect the seals that hold Anthrasax at bay; later, he seeks a new wielder for the Dragon Knight; and eventually, he commits to observing Dark Schneider and the unfolding conflict. He is not inherently malicious, even toward his former enemy, and his actions suggest a pragmatic acceptance of his circumstances.

His key relationships include his sister Sheila, whom he protects despite his physical change; Gara, who took him in; and Dark Schneider, with whom he shares a deep, complicated history. Lars’s role in the narrative is that of a supporting figure with a critical backstory, often providing insight into the true nature of the Dragon Knight and the curse. As the story progresses, he eventually regains his original human form after the Dragon Knight is destroyed by Anthrasax, revealing the truth of the curse and allowing him to fully participate in the final confrontations.

In terms of notable abilities, Lars was once a highly skilled combatant in his own right, powerful enough to challenge Dark Schneider. His most significant ability was the summoning and piloting of the Dragon Knight, a towering mechanical construct over 500 meters tall that multiplies its user’s spiritual energy. In his cursed dragon form, Lars retains some innate magical properties and the unique capacity to speak telepathically with Dark Schneider. Later, after his restoration, he can once again fight at a high level, though he remains a secondary character in the major battles.
