Description
Mao Tsuchiya is a second-year high school student at Midorigaoka High School, sharing a dorm room with Hisashi Otomo. He possesses an average height and build, with short brown hair swept to the side and large round brown eyes, typically seen in his school uniform. His birthday is February 25. As the third of five siblings, he heartily devours hamburg steak as his favorite food, favors the color sky blue, and finds comfort in his dorm room.

Serving as cameraman for the school's film club, Mao demonstrates a longstanding passion for filmmaking, particularly behind the camera. This dedication overcomes his inherent shyness. He exhibits high responsibility, empathy, and loyalty toward friends, acting as a calming presence within the club. A distinctive trait is his inability to lie when filmed, leading to documented agreements with Hisashi. Mao blushes easily and feels embarrassment about audible reactions during intimate moments.

During his first year, Mao witnessed Hisashi in a fever-induced episode mistaking him for a professor. After this, Hisashi disclosed his homosexuality and existing relationship. Mao proposed continued cohabitation under three conditions: Mao would not reveal Hisashi's orientation or relationship; Hisashi would not approach Mao romantically; and both would respect each other's private time. These agreements were later reaffirmed on camera.

In their second year, the film club selected a boys' love theme for a competition film. As cinematographer, Mao oversaw intimate scenes featuring Hisashi in a lead role. He initially hesitated to involve Hisashi, concerned about causing discomfort. Gradually, Mao recognized parallels between Hisashi and the film's character, culminating in a half-asleep fantasy of nearly kissing Hisashi during a scene rehearsal. This led to his self-admitted romantic feelings. Hisashi's visit during location scouting—where Hisashi rested on Mao's shoulder citing a need for his presence—and a subsequent piggyback ride to the dorms intensified Mao's emotions, though he assumed his love was unrequited.

After Hisashi's breakup left him bruised, Mao impulsively offered to replace his ex-boyfriend, promising better treatment. Their ensuing kiss prompted Mao to leave overnight to process his feelings. During filming, Mao's distraction became noticeable. His jealousy surfaced during a kissing scene, causing him to trip. While carrying Mao to the nurse's office, Hisashi filmed him, eliciting a confession of love and jealousy. They kissed again and later slept together, violating their initial agreement. During filming, Hisashi delivered an "I love you" line while directly looking at Mao, causing Mao to tear up.

Post-filming, Mao expressed concern about limiting Hisashi's pursuits. Hisashi confronted Mao's subdued demeanor, leading Mao to admit he would miss seeing him in the club but didn’t wish to restrict him. Mao later learned Hisashi planned to join the drama club so Mao could continue filming him, prompting Mao to vow never to look away from him.
