Description
Sōma Yukihira, a teenage chef, grew up in his father Jōichirō's Restaurant Yukihira diner, starting work at three years old. His kindergarten cooking experiments often made classmates cry, and he later assisted in his school cafeteria. A childhood fish-handling incident left a vertical scar on his left eyebrow when he fell against a table edge. By elementary school, he initiated cooking duels against his father, tallying 489 consecutive losses before departing for Tōtsuki Culinary Academy. Jōichirō's philosophy—that even simple dishes must be extraordinary to satisfy customers—fundamentally shaped Sōma's culinary approach.

He enrolled at Tōtsuki after passing an alternative entrance exam, despite initial rejection by Erina Nakiri. Her "God Tongue" judged his "Transforming Furikake Gohan" unworthy, though it secretly impressed her. During orientation, he declared his intent to reach the academy's summit, vowing to use peers as "stepping stones." Residing in Polar Star Dormitory, he befriended residents like Megumi Tadokoro and faced rivals such as Ikumi Mito and Takumi Aldini. His unorthodox "Yukihira Style" fused global techniques, yielding innovative dishes like "Chaliapin Steak Don" and "Curry Risotto Omurice," alongside experimental failures such as "Grilled Squid Tentacles in Peanut Butter."

He survived Tōtsuki's rigorous training camp by adapting to harsh critiques and collaborated with Megumi during a team-based exam. At the Autumn Elections, his "Ojiya-style Pacific Saury Takikomi Gohan" and "Mackerel Hanetsuki Gyoza" demonstrated creativity against elite opponents like Akira Hayama. During internships, he revived a failing diner through menu redesign. Later, he opposed Azami Nakiri's authoritarian "Central" regime, joining rebels in the Régiment de Cuisine team battles. His victory contributed to Azami's ousting, earning him the Elite Ten Council's first seat.

Post-Tōtsuki, he confronted "dark chefs" from "Le Cuisine Noir" in the BLUE tournament. To rescue the abducted Erina, he competed against leader Asahi Saiba—Jōichirō's former protégé—and defeated him by embracing his identity rather than borrowed techniques. Facing Erina in the finals, his dish challenged her lifelong critiques, though she called it "disgusting." Years later, he temporarily left culinary work but returned to challenge Erina anew, aiming to finally earn her "delicious" endorsement.

Personality-wise, he exhibits relentless optimism and courage, treating losses as growth opportunities. Jōichirō attributes his resilience to "battle lust" that overcomes opponents' perceived superiority. Though initially perceived as arrogant, he forges friendships through mutual respect, aiding peers like Megumi in overcoming self-doubt. His cooking ethos centers on surpassing boundaries: he views culinary art as an "untraversable landscape" and approaches it with fearless experimentation, inherited from his mother's spontaneity and father's risk-taking. This contrasts figures like Tsukasa Eishi (who doubts others but not himself) or Asahi (who amalgamates others' skills); Sōma's "selfishness" lies in using challenges solely as tools for self-improvement.

His appearance includes spiky red hair and a signature headband worn while cooking. Early outfits feature his diner's black uniform; later, he adopts Tōtsuki's school attire. Post-BLUE, he sports a shorter hairstyle reminiscent of his youth.
