Description
Goliath is the pet guard dog of the Yozakura family, a position he has held for several generations. He is a remarkable creature belonging to a special breed known as the Okami Dog, or Divine Dog, which has been continuously refined through selective breeding since the mid-Edo Era. This long history of development has endowed him with a unique set of abilities that make him an invaluable protector of the household. Photographs and family records suggest that Goliath has been alive and active since at least the end of the Edo period, placing his age at well over one hundred years.

In his default state, Goliath often appears as a small, black-furred dog with yellow eyes and a blue tint to his coat, small enough to comfortably sit on the lap of Mutsumi Yozakura. His most prominent and dramatic ability is size manipulation, which he can perform at will. On the smaller end, he can shrink down to a mere eight centimeters, but he can also expand to a middle form of about one hundred centimeters, a large form of eight hundred centimeters, and a true giant form that towers over both humans and trees. At his absolute maximum, Goliath can reach a staggering size of one hundred meters tall, transforming into a colossal guardian that rivals creatures of myth and legend.

Beyond his signature size-shifting, Goliath possesses a range of superhuman physical capabilities. In his medium-sized form, he can run at speeds of up to three hundred twenty kilometers per hour, allowing him to keep pace with high-speed bullet trains. He can also run on water and scale buildings taller than three hundred meters with ease. His hide is remarkably tough, able to withstand knives, gunfire, and explosions, making him an effective living shield for the family he protects. He also has the unique ability to grow wings and fly, as well as an extraordinarily long lifespan and an immunity to most, if not all, diseases.

Goliath's personality is defined by a fierce, unwavering loyalty to the Yozakura family. He is intensely protective of its members, especially the current head of the family, Mutsumi Yozakura. In this capacity, he is aggressive and ferocious toward any intruder or perceived threat, willing to use his own body as a shield to ensure their safety. When no danger is present, however, his disposition is calm and relaxed. He enjoys leisurely activities such as taking naps and going for walks, and he has a noted fondness for specific foods, including lamb prepared as Jingisukan, corn, and even beer. Conversely, he has a strong dislike for hot weather and the smell of human flatulence.

Goliath’s intelligence is another of his defining traits. Far beyond that of a normal dog, he can read and write, using these skills to communicate with human characters. He is also a surprisingly skilled driver, having obtained a gold license that qualifies him to operate any type of vehicle, and he can execute extreme driving maneuvers to evade gunfire and missiles. His problem-solving abilities are such that he has constructed his own custom doghouses, some of which are equipped with computers, radio communication systems, and secret tunnels that lead directly into the Yozakura mansion.

Within the story, Goliath’s primary role is that of a living fortress and guardian of the Yozakura estate. He patrols the grounds and neutralizes threats. One of his most significant rules is that only the current head of the family is permitted to walk him, underscoring his deep bond with the family's leadership. His relationship with the main protagonist, Taiyo Asano, undergoes a notable evolution. Initially, Goliath is distrustful of Taiyo and refuses to allow him to ride on his back. However, after Taiyo demonstrates his courage and selflessness by risking his own life to protect both Mutsumi and Goliath, the great dog’s attitude changes. He grants Taiyo his trust and acceptance, signified by allowing him to ride alongside Mutsumi.

Goliath also has a well-documented and deeply antagonistic relationship with Kyoichiro Yozakura, the eldest son of the family. Goliath shows a marked antipathy for Kyoichiro, frequently biting him, intimidating him, and even urinating on him as part of a mischievous and long-running rivalry. This behavior is a source of recurring comedy. In contrast, he shares positive relationships with other animals, including Kimiyo, a white cat, and Leviathan, a descendant of a megalodon.
