Description
Kouki Nakano, often called Aurora, is a second-year student at Sakaneko High School and a member of the anime research club. He presents himself as a handsome and composed teenager with short blonde hair and golden eyes, a look that earns him considerable popularity among his peers. Beneath his cool exterior, he secretly harbors an intense passion for idol anime. Whenever conversation shifts to this hidden interest, he undergoes a dramatic personality shift, discarding his usual calm for overtly enthusiastic and excitable behavior.
His role in the story deepens considerably beyond the typical charming upperclassman. Minoa Asagaya, a fellow club member and newcomer to anime, views him as a reliable and kind senior who assisted her during a difficult moment. However, Nakano eventually betrays the club by colluding with the school principal to engineer its disbandment. This betrayal is not malicious but part of a far larger scheme. The truth emerges that Nakano is not an ordinary human at all. He originates from an anime world, having crossed into reality long ago. As an ageless being, he remained a high school student for decades, merely updating his appearance to match contemporary “pretty boy” aesthetics.
His motivations are rooted in a desire to prevent the two worlds from merging. Nakano acts as a secret guardian, orchestrating events from the shadows, even feigning allegiance to the principal, to steer the real world away from a catastrophic fusion with fiction. His scheming is pragmatic and ultimately protective. He manipulates situations, such as the club’s brief dissolution, to steer events toward a necessary resolution.
Nakano’s key relationships revolve around the anime club. Minoa looks up to him, unaware of his double life. Kai Musashisakai, another club member, is the one who persistently calls him Aurora, a nickname that sticks. His concealed past ties him to the principal, who was once his friend and fellow anime club member in an earlier era, a connection revealed through an old graduation photograph that inexplicably includes Nakano.
His development traces an arc from a seemingly shallow heartthrob to a tragic, self-aware character. After working behind the scenes to force a confrontation with the truth, he ultimately sacrifices his place in the real world. Nakano returns to the anime realm, leaving behind a newly constructed reality where a fictional counterpart bears the name Aurora, while the true Kouki Nakano fades from the world he helped save. His notable abilities include extensive anime knowledge, a capacity to manipulate social situations, and the uncanny insight afforded by his otherworldly origin, all of which he uses to guide the story toward its climax.
